While it’s a good gesture, part of the sport is to understand the rules and use it to your advantage. Time management and pacing is key in a marathon. Mutai is no rookie, so this “white-knighting” by Ivan has very little value or merit because Mutai didn’t return the favor and Ivan’s name will always be second place.
