Jf17 block 3 has an operational range of 2200km compared to only 875km of tejas and can target at a range of 1200km compared to 500 of tejas. Thunder also has a more efficient engine and better stealth capabilities and higher operational altitude compared to tejas. Tejas only beats Thunder at speed

One biggest reason is the very fact that the Indian Air Force itself is yet to induct the Tejas in Large Numbers in its Inventory. Most countries go by this logic. PAF JF-17, b4 being exported to various countries, was already a part of both the PAF & PLAAF, comprising atleast 3-4 Squadrons. Also, in the 2019 IAF / PAF Air Battle, the JF-17 made its debut and its Performance was quite Satisfactory. This helped in improving the Aircraft's viability amongst the International Customers. Another imp reason is cost overruns, technical obsolence and behind-the-schedule state of HAL Tejas. Remember that the Tejas Program was initiated in 1983 with the intention of replacing the MiG-21s. Most Countries currently don't see as to how the Tejas would be fit for the Challenges of 2020. The JF-17 also has a strong backing by China, a proven weapons manufacturer & exporter, while India is yet to achieve any significant credibility in the area of Weapons Manufacturing & Export. Pakistan and China enjoy Defence Ties and Mutual Defence Pacts with many countries such as Turkey, Myanmar, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Oman, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Iraq, Iran etc, this means that JF-17 will get the priority as similar to those of US / European-made Fighters.

So made in china have no guarantee. Tejas is newly built and not even one Tejas crashed during its 15 years of test trials
