After the v2.0 firmware update, I have to say this synth sounds exactly like I hoped it would. I was in the first wave of pre-orders, but the clicking sound really disappointed me. Now that they fixed that issue, it really shines. Do not worry about the small display. It sounds exactly like an Oberheim, has 16 voices with poly-AT. It is a beast and a bargain.

Literally just picked up this synth 2 days ago! It's awesome but it does require some finessing. You can get everything from rich pads to thick bass if you know what you're doing. Lots of the presets suck though. But you found a collection of awesome sounding ones!

I think it sound pretty good, unusual sounds, tucked away in there. My next purchase is the Desktop version. And as for not sounding like a "real oberheim", good. I had an Expander in the 90's and it sounded bad, really thin and watery with a hundred horrible filters. If it had sounded half as good as this I would have kept it. Thanks for an inspiring review.

The UB-Xa does much more than any Oberheim OB-X series can. It costs much less than any Oberheim does. It's a fantastic value to say the least.
However, it doesn't sound quite like an Oberheim. It lacks the high-end sizzle, that subtle "je ne sais quoi, " that instantly makes an Oberheim recognizable.
In fact, in this particular video, it reminded me much more of a PPG Wave 2.2 than an Oberheim. Which is funny, because Behringer did in fact clone it with their Behringer Wave.
Anyway, I had bought the UB-Xa when it came out early last year and got it fast (thanks to Sweetwater), but a few weeks after I sold it to a good friend who was desperately waiting to get his hands on one (it was already on backorder by then). I got the OB-X8 instead. Even it, is not totally exactly like an OB-Xa, but closer than the Behringer.

Unfortunately, I won't buy this synth from the source you pointed out, because I've purchased it before....

Shame it doesn't have separate outs for each layer (so you can use a certain fx on one sound and not the other). Sounds great though.

nice demo... but the dual ub-xa's i thought sounded kinda overkill... i think it worked better with the pro-800's.

I baught one but why does it only have full velocity and no sensitivity even if you adjust setting. Really upsetting

Every patch sounds so similar its just boring. I have no clue why would they sell this synth with such a lame soundset. Its not helping the synth, and so far i heard devastated stories about two of my friends who were so depressed when they got this synth, and they later bought custom presets and decided to keep it.

All sound the same even the LFO sample and hold type sounds sound better on my MS20 cheezy review.
