"A franchise where you're either a pirate, a marine, or f***ed" has to be one of the best written lines lol

"Japanese for 'targeted at young boys' and English for 'beloved by grown men'" is such an accurate description of the shounen genre.

I guess that's what happens when:
1- Most of the cast loves the source material
2- The showrunner loves the source material
3- The original author is involved and has overseeing privileges

What's insane is that nobody thought of that before...

"wonder if naami is going to get the same level of character development she got in the anime" I lost it😂😂😂
"Let him cook"

It worked because the creator was deeply involved, the cast loved their character, respected said characters and didn’t talk down to the audience.

"Sanji is messed up because he got abandoned by his parents"

Oh no, it's WAY worse than that

I love that he called Buggy “Buddy”, that would make him so mad

"Nami is messed up because her parents died and they one-pieced her guardian." is probably the most tragic yet funniest sentence in this video aside from the Shonen one

There's actually a good reason why they couldn't just sail into the Grand Line that wasn't covered in this version; the Grand Line is flanked on both sides by the Calm Belt, where the water is always completely still and wind never blows, making navigating it on ships that use sails nearly impossible. What's more, the calm waters attract a highly concentrated number of sea beasts looking for a place to sleep and don't like to be disturbed, so the only safe way to enter the Grand Line is through Reverse Mountain.

Love how they actually have luffy saying "im gonna be king of the pirate" on each and every episodes 😂 so true to the source material and anime..

I like how they didn't sanitize the weirdness and try to make it any less goofy.

Can we appreciate the line, "Wait, the butler actually did it?" Gets me every time.

The reason this turned out so well is because Oda has a Morality Clause in his contract. A Morality Clause is unheard of in Hollywood because it means that Oda has the right to approve of every change to source material, and if the studio goes behind his back to do something like, for example, make romance between Straw Hats, he can pull the plug on the entire show. So everything in OPLA S1 had been approved by Oda himself

After thousands of hours watching this series, the line: "You wanted to be the king of sailors" broke me because it never have crossed my mind 😅

I didn't notice until you made a joke about the spinning camera but that's a really big improvement on the rapid quick cuts we get from most actions scenes. It keeps the camera dynamic while actually letting us see the action, but it's still chaotic enough to cover up some less than perfect choreography.

One of the things I like in this Adaptation is that they kept the original reason of Zef eating his own leg than that watered down version of getting it cutoff during the ship sink

“You want to be king of the sailors, not king of the pirates.” To be fair, Luffy’s bizarre conception of what a pirate is supposed to be in his mind is heavily influenced by the impression left upon him by Shanks and his crew. Whom tended to behave like adventurous rebels with hearts of gold (basically Aladdins on water). Whom were also a glorified vigilante militant group of anti-world government anarchists and freedom fighters (think Robin Hood) than typical pirates. With the other pirates in Luffy’s perspective being a bunch of dishonorable sea-faring thugs and bloodthirsty warlords.

"When you love being on boats, but not doing crime. That's called sailing. You want to be king of the Sailor's." Haha, that one got me good. This was my thought exactly. Every time Luffy explained "I'm a different kind of pirate."
