For anyone that still can't see the song appearing after these steps, I've just found out you need to go into the Spotify settings on your phone, scroll down to local files and allow desktop sync in there. Literally no guide on YouTube has included this step. Incredible.

As of June 2022, this still works perfectly. If it doesn't play on your phone and says "sync with computer", make sure you scroll to the top of the playlist and hit the download button. Again, many thanks, got a good country song that for some reason wasn't on spotify.

For anyone seeing the song but not being able to play it: try making it a public playlist or if it already is public make it private and then public again. Worked for me

Any ideas for the fact it shows up on my computer and phone but won't actually play on either of them? I have premium and its not greyed out either, it lets me click but then nothing happens

I finally found a way if the songs don’t show up and u tried every way. Go to ur Spotify settings on ur phone go all the way Down to local data and turn the sync on there

It won’t play on my phone. It’s grayed out and says if you own the song you can sync it from your computer but ido what to do

At the end you need to sync it to make it work
To do :
1) go into your iPhone Spotify settings
2) select local files
3) turn it on

I do this, but it won’t let me play it and says “Spotify can’t play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it”

Here in october 2023 and I can confirm this still works. For the youtube mp3 file just google mp3 and a converter will show up. Copy the youtube video link and paste it into the converter.

April 15, 2021. This works perfectly, and exactly as explained in the video. It only works by first adding the mp3 file to your desktop App. There's no way around it, people! These are Spotify's configurations, so don't give a thumb down to the video just because it doesn't work the way you expected. Thank you, How to Digital for these instructions!!!

I tried but my view is so different from the view on his video. I enabled the local files but it won't show on my menu on spotify on the desktop. The video does not explain how to add a song to your local files if you have the song saved in your desktop for instance.
