Melodyne in Studio One: Adapting loops to a live band

With Melodyne and Studio One, you can turn simple loops into a breathtaking performance. In this video, Rich first shows how to time-stretch a tambourine loop when the user knows the tempo of the loop. He then demonstrates the superiority of Melodyne detection and time-stretching, and discusses the importance of choosing the right algorithm. Next, Rich shows how Melodyne can be used to adapt a shaker loop to a live performance when the user does not know the original tempo of the loop. He also mentions a pro tip for altering Melodyne's perception of the original loop tempo to achieve half-speed playback. Finally, Rich demonstrates how Melodyne now adapts this loop when it is pasted throughout a song with many tempo changes, as well as how to detect the tempo again if a mistake has been made in setting the tempo.

As always Rich, your video was spot on. I especially like how you explain everything in everyday language (for dummies like me) during every step you are taking and why.

If I would change anything at all, it would be to use a different song for editing. Why? It's because the sample was simply too "loud and busy" to hear the tambourine and shaker that you were layering in. Listen as I may, I could not hear either of them while they were fighting that twangy vocal, rock guitar, bass and drums...

Your narrative made absolute sense but I had to simply take your word that the tambourine and shaker were there at all. Perhaps next time you could use "singing baby kittens" as the background track. Haaa!

Keep up the great work!

I'd like to see a series about the integration between Melodyne and Reaper DAW.

Please remember some of us older musicians have lost our higher hearing registers - tambourines and especially shakers just disappear in the mix making this tutorial more difficult to follow. Maybe use a cowbell loop - can never have enough cowbell...!!
Thanks for your Melodyne tutorials, learning a lot from them,

Hey sir love the videos. I am learning so much! Something that threw me off though is when you said pianos are a polyphonic instrument but they are actually monophonic. I had researched this a little while back before seeing this video. Just thought I should make the correction here so as not to confuse everyone with the facts.

How do I change the harmonics for one single note, without affecting other notes, and without using another instance of Melodyne?

Thanks for another instructive video. I hope, however, that this Celemony channel remembers that many of us are not Studio One users. The last few videos focussed almost too much on that particular DAW...

Would time stretch in Studio One be like Flex 💪🏼 Audio in Logic Pro X?
