That's how vibrations are made in devices, an imbalanced wieght on a motor

This is also how it works in videogame controllers, just bigger. Usually there's 2 and they're in the handles

Kids that grew up with clear see-through video game controllers knew. XD

You are looking at exactly the same thing, A asymmetric weight on a motor. Perfect for the job, No change necessitated

Yes, having the vibration on, on your phone drains it faster, especially if your battery is old

Yeah. They don’t work like that anymore.
Ever since iPhone 6, they’ve had a solenoid vibration motor. (A little magnetic weight that vibrates back and forth).
It’s way more precise and silent. That’s why they now can give you that single “tap” feeling, instead of the “angry bee” feeling.

Jordan, it's still an asymetrical weight on a motor shaft. It's just smaller.

I would point out to gaming controlers if youve ever had a translucent one its pretty cool to see in action as younger me

Just wait till he discovered haptic feedback.

Fun fact if you open up a PS2 Controller or an Xbox controller. Same kind of motor uses in phones, but on a much smaller scale.

Modern phones don't use this anymore. It's more like a speaker, in a sense where a coil is energized and that moves a magnet nearby, which then hits something to make the satysfying vibration. I think.

It's obvious how much work you put in!

Magic I'm good with that. Previously I thought it was voodoo, Yay for learning.

I knew this from smashing game controllers as a kid with anger problems.

I knew that's probably how it worked because that's how it works with video game controllers. I've had a few transparent controllers throughout my life and they of course all had rumble capabilities, and that's pretty much what they look like. Though with a controller, it's usually that one rumble thing is smaller than the other.

Same thing for a lot of video game controllers. Anything with a translucent shell can show you visibly how rumble and vibration work

I got a transparent Playstation controller once and it had something similar with shaking pieces in the handles. That's when I realized how most devices probably vibrate. It's just a swinging piece of plastic or something in the device that moves rapidly.

It's 12.35 PM here in Norway, I'm just snacking on some lunch, and you have officially broken my brain. I had noooo idea that was how it worked!

Great now I’m gonna think about this every time I get a text.

I should start saying “Oh one sec my phone blender is going off”

Now they use something called a taptic engine (for haptic which is move precise) that moves in a different way compared to the old school vibration Motors
