I live in Australia and have 10, 000 of these guys roost in trees behind my house every day. Watching them fly off at dusk is an amazing sight.

In Australia, they are essential pollinators and seed distributors for our native forests. They are beautiful and need protecting. There is no need to fear them. They don't suck blood, aren't vampires (see microbats. Much smaller, insect eaters) and need protecting. Fortunately, we have trained wildlife carers who hand rear and release injured fruit bats (and post their videos online! 😁 See Megabattie or Batzilla the Bat) 💕

They navigate visually, and do not have sonar capacity. Thousands of them used to fly in front of my window of a 10-story apartment building on Potts Point, New South Wales, Australia. They're absolutely beautiful and very friendly.

I found a baby bat on the ground before. He was dehydrated. I got a leaf and put some of my water on it and he drank it out of my hand. I didn't know what to do so I just left it more water and it kept drinking and resting. I wanted to keep it but I didn't think that would be right.
