Fimi X8 Mini - No RC - Fly with just the phone - WiFi Mode.

Is flying the X8 Mini with just your phone useful? Flip a switch, start the App, connect to the craft... and Fly. But not to far or to high .
Trusting onscreen controls could be nerve racking. But I guess could have its uses however limiting they may be.The system does work.
You can take pictures and video. In a pinch, like taking an overhead of your campsite, it could be good. But complete VLOS is a 100% must have.
I wish saved waypoints could be used and that there were some directions in the User Manual.
I flew it a few more times and in a somewhat open space I could get comfortable using it, but it's just not that practical from a safety perspective. I dont know quite why but I just never felt in full control.
With a safe range of about 30m high and 30m out... that's about it. Maybe I just dont trust my phone!

Using just the phone to fly is indeed different. I did a bunch of little fly overs after this with just the phone. It got to be not that bad. Maybe for getting some quick "B" roll shots or quick close pics.. I can see it. I guess its nice to know in a pinch but not a mode I would deliberately choose.

nice to find that feature on it. For me, it´s perfect, because I intend to use it as I am climbing, so it follows me, as long as it is always near to me there is no problem with losing signal, and the best is that I don´t have to deal with the control as I am in a rock wall, so it is one thing less to think about it. thanks

It makes sense that you can only go 50 meters high an 100 m distance as the Wi-Fi from the phone probably won't reach that far anyway

I heard it was considered a search and rescue mode. So limited flight parameters. It should also zoom and record the zoom in video and photos.

If they add Intelligent Mode with all features and they will work in WIFI it will be top notch drone! Without Intelligent mode wifi not usable in MTB bike trips for example, cuz no tracking mode and other modes available.

Phone wifi signal range isn't great hence the lack of performance I would think.

This drone is not for me. I'll stick with my mini. The battery is making me hold on.
