Fly Fishing Tech Tips: Loading Our Own Tippet Spools

I normally buy spools of trout tippet as diameter is an important factor when fishing for trout. However, when it comes to other types of fishing, there's no reason why we can't use line meant for conventional fishing.

I use mono Nylon and Fluorocarbon from 250 yd. spools to load tippet spools that I carry with me, on the water.

Here's how to load them

Peter, I've been doing the same thing, making leader spools for the fly rod and for spin fishing leaders I tie onto the braided line that I use. Never seem to have enough empty tippet spools LOL!

If you're nymphing then 6 lb seaguar invisx flouro is good enough for Dom from troutbitten. 8 lb invisx flouro works great on the trout from the west coast of Canada. Give it a shot!
If you want more action on the nymph tie it in with a loop knot.
CHEERS!
