We had a women insist on us shaving her Pom because of “shedding” and we insisted that there’s a good chance the hair won’t grow back well, if it even does grow back at all. But she insisted. So I sadly shaved this cute little Pom. He looked cute obviously afterwords but you can imagine what happened after that. Woman came back about 3-4 months after and the pom had shitty strands of hair here and there and undercoat growing in weird places and bald patches here and there and she’s like “yeah I don’t want to go that short. Ever again. I don’t know why you guys did that.” 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ I now keep a before and after picture of poms that get a shitty coat back after a shave down. Just to prove that we aren’t stupid. 🙄

I have a pom that his previous owners shaved bald and it never grew back, they didn't want him and were going to put him to sleep, but thankfully my grandparents adopted him and we give all the love, he's now 16 now

I have a Pomeranian! Her name is Cocoa. She's a rescue and we found her in the streets. We kept her after nobody claimed her 12 years ago. We think her previous owners shaved her, as our groomer said her hair isn't right. My theory is the old owners got a Pomeranian, then realized it was too much work. They then tried shaving her, but she was still high maintenance, so they abandoned her, and that's when my family found her!

My boss grooms a Pomeranian (named Milo). Milo had never been shaved before, only hand scissored, and some groomer shaved him down and a year later he still didn't have hair growth. Luckily my boss is magic and found some products that started to grow his hair back! Milo is very lucky to have hair now

We have Poms at home and some friends got themselves one too... We told them from the very beginning to not shave their puppy but they decided to listen to their incompetent bastard of a dog hair dresser who shaved the dog 3 times in one month... Needless to say that the puppy didn't grow his hair back for almost 2 years. Now he kinda looks like a very weird sheep and they stopped going to that idiot and opted for our vet who helped them out with supplements and other stuff.

Didn't think it was up for discussion. Yes, I consider him incompetent and I won't budge on this. If you choose a profession, I expect you to do your due diligence and be informed. Ignorance isn't bliss if you bullshlt your way through. If you meet a pom-pupper in it's ugly phase, you don't tell the owners that shearing will help regrowing the fur and do it three fvcking times at that. It's in fact just a phase and washing, brushing and feeding your dog well, is enough. Saying "I don't know, but I'll inform myself and come back to you" was an option.

2. I do absolutely fault the owners for not listening to us, considering that our boys look great, but just look through the comments here and you will see that information on the internet is wildly different. If someone who works in a certain field gives you information, you normally choose to believe their words. I had a doctor telling me once that I was a-okay and he sent me home with the instructions "Drink more, move more, lay down for a maximum of two hours"... Turns out I had a huge inflamed and a regular inflamed kidney as I was crying on the floor (he got 1 instructions out of 3 right tho). I could have informed myself sure... But I guess WebMD would have told me that it was cancer, so... Potato potato. Informing yourself correctly is a damn art form

3. Of course, it's not only shearing, fur problems have a ton of different reasons. It was just narrowed down on the wrong maintenance here.

Nobody told my cousin that you couldn't shave a pomeranian puppy, so one summer she got her pom a short haircut to stay cool. The dog is elderly now and for the first time in ages has a beautiful soft coat because the new hairdresser had supplements she suggested to my cousin to talk to the vet about.
