Ohhh my 14 year old needs of those rings! I'm getting him one! How did I miss you talking about them before!
We are having a heck of a time getting our 21 year old to learn budgeting. Ive been trying to teach her since she had her 1st job in high school. She just can't get it. I think its harder for some, especially nowadays where there isn't much "paper" money going around... and that adds a whole new layer of issues for ppl who already have issues budgeting cause debits dont always come immediately out blah blah...
I got us out of debt with 2 rules I never broke. Stop charging. If we don't have the $ we do not need it, and 100% always pretend you're broke. Lol. The 1 thing i did that was harder at 1st was yes pay house, heat, water 1st. But when we started gaining momentum I added pay myself to that list. Even if it was $5 a paycheck, I took it out for me after all real necessities were paid then had the left overs for other stuff. very slowly I went from 0 saved to $20 to $100and it kept adding up and it was such a little amount at first but made me think holy crap! Its working! Love the eyes here!

I love this series ❤️ How I learned budgeting was you get paid on X day. Pay ALL the bills that day. Also, convincing yourself your constantly broke 🤣

I think this is a great video on budgeting and I honestly have watched a ton on the subject over the years. I think this is the best explanation on why you need to include entertainment in a budget I have ever heard!!! Congratulations on nailing this!!! You inspire me and toddy you inspired me right over to your shop!!! You keep being you!!!

Something I have started doing is getting cash out for any groceries entertainment or other spending that does not have to come directly from my bank. When I use that cash say if something is $9.02, I give the clerk a $10 even if I have two cent lying around. I then put that 98 cents into a jar for a rainy day fund or for a special treat. One year I got $200 from it.

One of the hardest things about budgeting for me has always been "what is a reasonable amount for this category" so my tip is track your actual spending for a month. Every single bit in and out. At the end of the month look at what you've spent and on what. From there you can work out places to cut back. Maybe you spent a lot on fast food and could transfer that to meal prep with cheap staples.

It's absolutely key to remember that if you find yourself with a lot of food waste because you aren't prepping meals (time, energy, whatever reason) you have to ask yourself why you aren't doing it. I've heard this called the ADHD tax, but it applies in many situations, if you buy cheaper items that need to be prepped but end up throwing them away you pay more in the long run than if you spend more upfront for precut veg that you actually use. So if a meal prep kit is the best consumption to waste value for you then that's the way for you to go. If that means that you plan for takeaways or delivery certain nights then that's what's important for you.

I learned to put my monthly coffee budget into a Tim Hortons gift card at the beginning of the month. That way only the card was used for coffee and when it was gone it was gone.

That self-neglect of feeling ashamed about the “non-essentials”…

Idk who else had this experience but since ex family shamed me for having needs, it was hard to look at budgets and not be like But what if I save money here here and here! With the "here" also being essential things. Also if you've been neglected food wise you should consider help for eating disorders because your idea of what is a reasonable diet probably isn't healthy!!!
