Good Housekeeping Magazine tells us:
7 Surprising Ways You're Ruining Your Teeth
Since you only get one set of teeth,
be careful not to make these 7 common mistakes:
1. Brushing Too Hard with a hard bristle toothbrush can
wear away your tooth enamel, cause sensitivity and gum recession.
Use soft bristles and move it in small circles, not side to side. (show toothpaste and brush)
2. Eating too Many Acidic Foods can wear away enamel causing pain from hot or cold food or drinks.
Culprits: carbonated drinks, orange juice, wine, sports drinks, sour gummy candies, and lemons. Think of your teeth as seashells. If you them in Coke they disappear.
If you must drink coke, drink through a straw.
3. Too Much Teeth Whitening can erode the enamel and cause sensitivity.
4. Eating Hot Pizza With a Cold Drink
Eating pizza expands your enamel and drinking cold drinks causes contraction leading to hairline cracks.
5. Using a toothpaste that is too abrasive. Anything over 100 on the RDA scale is too abrasive. Colgate is 70. Arm & Hammer Dental Care PM is a whopping 168.
6. Using your teeth as tools such as a bottle opener, ice crusher or nail polish bottles opener, each of which can crack teeth or pop out fillings.
