So it is rampant in our population. The moment we talk about giving a medicine to the pregnant woman the first worry is that will it affect my pregnancy will it affect my baby. Is it safe to take the medicine during pregnancy. It is safe to take the medicine during pregnancy and in fact it is important to take the medicine during pregnancy, because your baby is totally dependent on you for the thyroid hormone. The baby cannot independently make the thyroid hormone itself and it has to depend on the mother for the thyroid supply. So f there is a deficiency in thyroid supply, the baby will not do that well. The babies neural development might be affected and there might be issues with the brain development. It is important that the doctor that if the doctor says that you should take the thyroid medicine during pregnancy, you should take it everyday morning in empty stomach and continue monitoring the thyroid every few or weeks and see if it is nicely under control or not that will ensure that the baby is intellectually healthy. The brain development is fine and there is no issue.
