I'm 61 and just starting out, I want to be able to paint portraits of my family. You make this appear so simple and straightforward; are there any tips you can give an absolute novice? My main problem with faces is proportion and angle to the light. Don't seem able to get both correct, one of them maybe. but not both.

May you make a video about how to mix skin tone and how to get the tone

For making a caucasian skin tone:
Red+yellow
Add a tiny bit of blue to neutralize it
Add white until you get the desired tone
Idk how to make darker skin tones, but I hope this helped some of yall lol

I am a beginner with painting acrylic art, and I absolutely love when google takes me to one of your tutorials for a specific technique. Thank you for your hard work and knowledge!

Best advice ever, especially the last one. I never feel that I’m done. There’s always ONE more thing to do. Your suggestion that if “another brush stroke doesn’t enhance, but just makes a change, then it’s probably time to stop” (paraphrased) will be my new mantra.

Drawing nose is the most difficult to me.. The proportion, shading, its need more effort than other face part

Painting complex areas first makes perfect sense seeing as you're energy and focus are sharp in the beginning and can take a small break being loose while filling out bigger areas

The way you paint is like a magic. Can you share more videos on how you put colours and make it look realistic and this beautiful?

You just described exactly-what took me 20 years to learn.. your paintings are bright and fresh. I love that about them!

Thank you so much. When I paint a portrait in graphite, I like to do the eyes, nose and mouth first so I can see the likeness in those areas in great detail and the person in the portrait begins to pop out in 3-D. Now that I want to paint portraits in oils, I see that most tutorials don't do that, and the chaos in the early stages makes me uncomfortable. a thousand thank you's for showing me I can paint an area and almost finish it as I go along, to tweak it later. What a relief!

Love how you simplify the theories, makes me feel much less overwhelmed starting new pieces ♡

I can't even draw a realistic face, why am I here

You were spot on. Your tip made a huge difference. Until I tried your method I was saving eyes, nose and mouth till the end which caused me to paint them in a very loose impressionistic manner. This lead to I could only paint males up until I tried your idea. I drew a quick sketch of a gal on a small canvas pad and within one hour I completed a wonderfully done female image that had all the soft features I had not been able to pull off prior to the change.

Thanks a ton....
