A cross in between Matthews and McDavid. Chicago has quite a generational talent on their hands 😮

His shot is honestly so unique, that top wrist cranking motion is odd lol

TBH Mike Hoffman perfected this drag type shot way before #34. That’s what transformed him from promising AHLer to a serious shooting threat.

Used the same shot in the early 70s taught my younger brother using a cement wall and a sheet of plywood..
his shot was deadly and accurate after that summer ..

That shots been around for ever, every generation had a person with a monster shot like that. Only reason it's faster. The stick.

Oshie has been doing the drag...honestly I think a lot of players did the drag release before Matthew's but Matthew's puts a nice flow on it

For anyone wondering and trying to master a nhl shot try the slingshot pull the puck back have your hand on your hip than when releasing hands first to other hip and this goes same for the toe drag shot it may look like a bad way to shoot at first but when you mastered it’s a dinger past gks

He’s still just a kid too, wait until he’s got real grown man strength behind that shot, it’ll be unstoppable

Is the hands really far away from the body though?

The drag is a nightmare for a goalie...

No he got injured badly and when it was supposed to heal correctly in the cast, his tendons fused instead and became very tight. His release is like a bullet in a gun bc of that critical mistake in healing that actually changed his shot forever. While he was in a cast, he also began training his other arm without taking a 3 month break and he definitely came out stronger in the forearms from it.

Lol... sorry that's the Milan Hejduk shot... Matthews learned it from him...

I taught myself to shoot like this as a preteen (Around mid 2000's) It looked different than most players but to me it FELT the best way to shoot for me. I wasn't even think about being deceptive - It just felt quicker, and more accurate for me personally. I also had the hardest shot amongst my peers especially my slapshot, so it's cool seeing it come into the NHL. The way most people would wrist shot looked so weak to me so this is what I chose lol sick stuff!

Flex at the bottom of the stick, goalies can't track it.Look five hole and goes bar down.
