Jaguar XF 2018 saloon in-depth review | Mat Watson Reviews

Believe it or not, this is the new Jaguar XF. It may look like the previous model, as Jaguar seem to be borrowing Audi’s idea of uniformity in design, but noticeable changes have been made if you know where to look. For example the new XF now weighs 190kg less than the previous model thanks to an aluminium body. The previous model also did well to drive buyers towards the British manufacturer and away from German rivals such as the Mercedes E-Class, or Audi A6. So, has the latest update been a successful one? Get all my thoughts now in this 4k review.

Matt, you have reached that point where you are near perfection in car reviewing. Been watching your videos for a long time and seen how you have evolved.

i drove the xf 20d the first time today and it's very smooth to drive and the front looks just badass.

3:06 i like the subtle hint of Tata coming from that seat fold lever and exposed metal

I think the first generation facelifted XF was the best looking.

I have had two XFs both 3ltr diesels, the second was a Portfolio S, a rocket with total luxury and very economical. Loved them so much I moved up to an XJ. Love Jags, they have so much more presence on the road than the equivalent German offerings.

The two little "buttons" to fold down the rear seat are absolutely shocking. I just cannot believe they had the guts to put it in there!!!

The exposed metal in the boot is an eyesore and completely unforgivable.

Carwow, many of us would love a Jaguar XJ review, please do that

The exposed metal on the upper part of the boot is the same on BMW 5 series, new Mercedes E Class, Volvo S90 new Audi A6 to. It is not seen unless you climb into the boot!! The Lexus GS has a fully trimmed boot if that is important to you & a generally better made interior than
any of its rivals.

With Jags, you have to sit in one to appreciate the interior. Their interiors look bad in pictures but surprisingly good when you sit in one, I prefer it to the E-class. Something about the proportions and how it wraps around you. With pictures, you will naturally just look at the center console which in reality isn't representative of how you feel when inside.

Noticed that all latest Jag and Land Rover models looks good only in top specs, need to upgrade for massive ride-ruining rims. Nice review tho!

Having driven this for a couple of days, this has the best suspension and handling in it's class by far. The BMW 3/4/5 are second best - and I own a 430d Gran Coupe. The XF is sporty and nimble for it's size, yet it soaks up bumps really well making it comfortable. The negatives are that the NVH is too high compared to the Germans, and the interior isn't quite up there.

When you see that they've saved on simple things in the interior on a premium class car, it makes you think what they've saved on under the bonnet. It's not pretty.

The picture you showed at the beginning wasn't the original XF

At the end of the videos, I suggest that you do the +/- thing that you used to in previous videos. This new ending is not so good in my opinion, because the video seems to end abruptly, but the old way caters for a much smoother ending. The best would be to somehow combine the two.

The standard suspension setup is nice because of the high profile tyres.
Great review as usual.

I'd love to own an XF. Just need to wait for five years to snag one when depreciation makes it worth as much as a dacia sandero.

Probably the only real xf I've seen with the pro infotainment

Why is fitting water bottles in every car review so important it seems the only thing you worry about not exactly a deal beaker

6 years after my comment.. I ve bought a XF lol... but a 2021.. it is a fantastic new design, great finish.. and it have seduced me more than the 5 serie or E class. You should do a review because the last XF is now a great sedan with real premium class.
