Very interesting really, the sultan would sit, attending and listening in the Dîvân-ı Hümâyûn or Imperial Court down below from a high above hidden place without his council knowledge. That was how Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent personally found out what was said and what was going on in court at his absence or pretending to be absent. The walls are thick but they have eyes and ears but the best is to hear it for himself before chopping off someone's head.
