The Roman Empire was one of the largest and most influential civilizations that ever existed. But what if somehow in today's current global age, the Empire was recreated to its exact ancient borders? What would the country look like today in the 21st century, and how would it compare to other countries across the world? This video attempts to find out!

Music is by the wonderful Ross Bugden, please check out his channel here for more music like this!

Isn’t it ironic that Rome’s poorest part of the empire (England, France, Germany) is now the richest part while Rome’s historically the richest part (Greece, Egypt, Turkey and onward) is currently the poorest

For this video, I don't think you understand what owning the entire mediterranean sea with modern technology would do for Rome's GDP

When my mind tried to comprehend a roman empire without the traditional warriors and instead having tanks and guns my brain went very fuzzy

Related to an earlier comment, the modern incarnation of the Roman Empire would control not only the Suez Canal but also Gibraltar, as well as the Turkish straits, and have an access to the Atlantic. It would also have access to the Indian Ocean, and possibly a direct land route to China. It would easily have the potential to dominate a good chunk of global trade.

The thing you miss when you just add their GDPs together and compare the the USA is that the USA’s GDP comes from the fact it’s united. If the states were independent, all the states economies would collapse. So if the countries united, their economies would grow massively, likely far beyond the USA. For example the EU’s economies would grow if it federalised and shrink if it dissolved.

I can't believe that at one point London (Londinium), Jerusalem, Baghdad, Istanbul (Byzantium/Constantinople), and Cairo was part of just one country.
