NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa got injured in March 2019. Triple H vacated his title and announced that Johnny Gargano will fight for the vacant title. Adam Cole, Ricochet, Velveteen Dream, Matt Riddle and Aleister Black faced each other, where the winner will face Gargano for the title. Aleister hit Riddle with the Black Mass and Velveteen hit Aleister with the Dream Valley Driver. Ricochet threw Velveteen outside on Cole and Aleister. Ricochet hit Riddle with a shooting star press and Cole hit him with the Last Shot to win the match. Cole and Gargano met at Takeover New York in a two out of three falls match. Cole hit Gargano with the Last Shot to make it 1-0. Then Gargano tapped out Cole to make it 1-1. Gargano caught Cole with the Gargano Escape and Roderick Strong intervened. Gargano tapped out Cole but the ref was distracted and Kyle O’Reilly grabbed Gargano’s eyes. Cole pushed Gargano into the ref and the Undisputed Era double teamed Gargano. Strong helped the ref get up and Gargano kicked out. Gargano threw Cole outside, threw Strong into the post, superkicked Bobby Fish and hit Kyle with a Tornado DDT. Cole superkicked Gargano, hit him with the Last Shot and Gargano kicked out. Then Gargano tapped out Cole to win the title.

That match is incredible, but the fans wanted Cole to win. I think Gargano held that belt only for a short time because the company gave it to Cole immediately. Gargano gave us amazing match, but the fans doesn’t want him. It’s Kinda sad.
