Magelin was the first Villain in one piece that genuinely made me scared for Luffy's well being, good shit Oda (pun intended ;)

Magelin is one of the best one piece villains and is super underrated. The dude is probably like Admiral level and is super bad ass

The more I think about it the more Magellan's words to Luffy ring true. Within 24 hours, Luffy suffered through the poison, lost a dear friend (Bon Clay) at Impel Down, saw his brother murdered before him, and subsequently passed out unable to deal with the hell he was now in.

What I love about Magellan is the fact that he was no evil whatsoever. He was just doing his job.

The scene where Magellan is standing in front of the door to Aces cell and keeping luffy from getting in is one of my favorites. Its one of the few scenes where the politics of One Piece is explained so well but in a "i got bad news for you" kinda way. Luffy really is just some kid trying to save his brother from a decision made by some of the most powerful people in the world. If Luffy wasn't so good at uniting people to fight with him i really think this is where he would've been finished. Magellan legit scared the shit out of me.

Magellan is one my favorite characters in One Piece but I would like to take this chance and describe how the user matters way more than the power itself. Magellan is a paramecia type and yet he is so adept at using his ability that most people mistake him for a Logia to this day. He is also the ONLY main villain of an arc that Luffy could never defeat. Also, he is the first character to display "awoken" powers, even though it's not stated, his Venom Demon state is pretty similar to what we've seen as "awoken" powers. In contrast, we have Ceasar Clown, a logia-type user who in paper seems like a definitive upgrade to Magellan's ability. Just by being a Logia he should be at a whole different tier of power and his fruit should allow him to do stuff that Magellan's could never hope to, like how he can deprive oxygen from a wide area around him, meaning he should be almost impossible to beat in drawn-out close combat or how he could turn himself into a gas to basically be almost omnipresent. And yet he is a piece of shit who got one-shotted by Luffy and then was rendered into comedic relief.

But more seriously, I love this guy, but I actually don't really know why... Or maybe because he destroyed Luffy, Black Beard + his whole crew and Ivankov in the same (rather short) arc, all of this while being a very flawed and almost ridiculous character in a lot of ways... Yeah, I guess that's it, he's just a typical One Piece character: he's a totally overpowered badass character who can pretty much destroy everyone and everything, but his most defining character traits are that he has diarrhoea and spend most of his time in the toilets... What the fuck Oda
