It’s May?! Right?! A celebration of the 151st anniversary of the Levi’s 501 shrink-to-fit. A little history, but mostly yapping and sizing so your STFs fit just right :)

I'm sure these aren't as great numbers wise compared to your short form stuff but I really love the laidback, conversational nature of these videos! Can't wait to see what you yap about next :)

Please make more long form videos. Great production and editing.

Loving these longer format videos! Could you maybe do a video on Wrangler Cowboy Cut jeans?

I think the modern day style journey, more so than ever, encapsulates the sentiment that we are what we grow beyond

started wearing Levi's in the '70s, County Seat is where the cool kids shopped for them, and they were still selling orange tag hippie bell bottoms, that were passé with my generation, red tag Levi's were the cool ones, and prewash was still a couple of years away, some kids wore the straight leg red tags, but I liked the boot cut version, always bought 1 inch larger in the waist, and 2 inches longer in length, had to wash and dry a new pair a least twice, but they were still stiff and physically hurt to wear, washed them 2x again after a week of wearing, then I'd wear them for a month straight before washing again, and they'd be comfortable after 3-4 months of doing that, and just when they were soft and had the perfect faded color, they'd tear at the knee, followed by a tear on the rear end within a couple of months, patches worked for a while, but that was about it for the life of that pair, Levi's departed from what they did best in the '80s, when they tried to compete with designer jeans, and never really came back their core jeans that were so popular when I was growing up

Thanks for this. Of all the videos on STF jeans I have watched this is the first that actually told me what size to start with.

9:03 Nahhhh i feel the exact same way. More power to them, but I hate when they act like not wanting to dress like a character from the shittiest anime you've ever seen is "boring"

Yeah, i sat in them in the tub when i was young. It would take me years to get the fade. Then after working a lot, the holes started from HARD work, not pre made holes. Proud I got frays and holes that I patched.

Some people don’t get it. My aunt wouldn’t give me a pair because she thought they were too big on me, yeah well it says: “buy 2 sizes bigger” on the label!

I forgot which brand used to say it on a tag in their jeans - maybe Wrangler - but it said "please wash three times before wearing" and I'd say that's spot on for unsanforized jeans. Maybe stop after the first or second time if they fit well.

There was a period of time I was reading a lot about raw denim as I wanted a pair but never got one. Now I'm back to considering it which I'm guessing is why you showed up in my recommended.
From what I remember, I thought you were supposed to not wash them for a little. So you can get some of the indigo to fall off naturally on where the pants crease, stuff in your pockets, etc. Do people not do that any more?

Holy crap, almost everything you say in this video, I'd never think to say, but hearing you, it's like " are you in my head bro?" 😂 great video

My sugarcane 1947’s also shrank quite a bit, even though they were already washed once. They fit perfectly now

Really like what you were saying about fashion these days. People talking about fashion seem so out of touch with what fashionable people are actually wearing out in the world.

Good to know. I'd need a 34w 36in or a 34w 37in to shrink them down right. Do/ did they make them that long? Depending on the brand, cut, rise, ect, I wear a 34-36 inseam. I've never had any of their jeans.

Amazing overall explanation of the jeans garment concept and processes. One thing I didn't quite understand is, when you say 3 basic shrinking methods (bathtub, machine cold wash, machine warm wash), does that mean that when you find perfect fitting jeans, you don't machine wash and just soak and swirl in the bathtub? Also, you mentioned not soaking the jeans so they wont change size; I'm not sure if that meant simply not washing (or somehow dry-washing) the garment.
I know the video is not recent, but I just discovered it, so I just hope this message gets to you or to some kind soul that might clarify this to me 🙏😅❤
Sizing is a thing I could never get right 😭 and this whole thing might explain a lot!!! THANK'S!!!!
