Straighten it and see what you see. Curls hide splits very well. Straighten it and you're going to see the result of not trimming.

Good question. They tell me I have to trim it every 6-8 weeks.. who knows

I think that is just a way to make more money out of you. Hair typically grows like half an inch every month which equates to 6 inches a year. If you are going to get trims every two months, you are cutting off all 6 inches that grows out that year. You will be stagnant forever. I get my ends trimmed every 6 months. We have hair goals over here and I’m not about to let anyone get in the way of that.
