How Palm Leaf Plates are Made:

Workers collect the sheaths shortly after the leaves fall from the tree, which occurs every few weeks in this particular species. This collection method allows our palm leaf sheaths to be considered a non-timber resource. The sheaths are the portion of the leaf that will eventually become one of our Palm Leaf Plates.

Once the sheaths are collected, they are thoroughly rinsed and then hung to dry. Once the sheaths have dried sufficiently, they are then hand stretched and flattened. At this time the various plate profiles—round, square and rectangle-shaped—are molded using a heated press. During the shaping processes, workers make the most out of each sheath, making sure to produce multiple plates from each leaf. Not only is this a more efficient production process, but it is also a way to make the most out of each and every leaf, letting nothing go to waste.
Once the leaves have been properly pressed and the product has been packaged it is ready to be shipped to you! The plates can be enjoyed and then disposed of in a process as environmentally-friendly as production.
