Martin Freeman is the ultimate underdog actor. So talented and has been in endless roles from small to absolutely massive, yet he's so utterly utterly utterly humble and down to earth. Just like your mate or brother or neighbour. He could mix right in with everyone at a Tesco's and not be spotted.

I was one of the cameraman on the red carpet in NZ for the Premier of Worlds end when he got into an argument with our film reporter as to whether he was in Hot Fuzz.
Martin was very polite but she was insistent that he wasn’t. The expression on his face was classic but she wouldn’t believe him, I even chimed in from behind the camera to say yes he was in Hot Fuzz.
She was annoyed at me for taking his side so while I was putting my camera back in the car she ran off with the complimentary tickets we had been given.

The first of his 3 Hobbit movies quickly became my favorite movie of all time, largely due to his amazing performance. The Hobbit has been my favorite book for the past 30-some years since I first read it as a teenager and I often dreamed of it being made into a movie, and despite Jackson thinking he knows better than Tolkien and changing things he shouldn't have, I absolutely loved it.
