It’s a Long Way to Mukumbura - High Quality

This 1977 song was set to the music of “It’s a long way to Tipperary”. The song both expressed, in humorous form, the physical distance to Mukumbura from other parts of the country while also celebrating the contributions made by different branches of the Rhodesian armed forces to the Rhodesian Bush War.

I know this song is already very widespread across Youtube but i felt that the other lyric videos of this song weren't very high quality, so i made my own. And no, this is not a repost, dunno why that guy said so but i made this video from the ground up and this is the first time i released it.

Lyrics:

It's a long way to Mukumbura
It's a long way to jol
It's a long way from your hometown
But you can have yourselves a ball
With your muckers
Goodbye Bulawayo, tot siens Cecil Square
It's a long, long way to Mukumbura And we're going up there to stir

It's a long way to JOC Inyanga
It's a long way, ek se
It's a long way from Umtali
But it's wide tar all the way
Well, nearly
Goodbye to the Cecil
Hello the Mont Claire
It's a long, long way to JOC Inyanga
And the trout is biting there

It's a long way to Kariba
It's a long way to run
It's a long way from Makuti
But you can do it on your THUMB
With your FN
We love our Sergeant Major, when he drives an RL
When he takes it on those bush roads, It's just like going to
Heaven, I'm in Heaven

It's a long way to Llewelyn
It's a long way on the train
We could gooi it to the North Pole, But they'd build one just the same with the parade square
We all dig the starpies, haircuts and the graze
And if we really scheme it's lekker when we start on our first phase

For the Mortars
Action, disarm look again
They're so loud

For the Blues
Changa to echo base
Homing call required over
Chopper come home, chopper come home

For the Instructors
One check your rear aperture
Two move your working force to the rear

For the Greys
You fool private the tails at the back

For Signals
Hello two this is one over
Hello, one this is one too are you one two?

For the Medics
This water cannot be drunk until it has been passed by the M.O

For the Cops
No madam that’s not what we use V-cars for
You want the pest control vehicle

For the RWS
Ah, Becky, I can't make up my mind
Whether to wear the green or blue eyeshadow
To weapons training today

For INTAF
Now you chaps are expected to be keeping this keep
As it should be kept
The keep does not keep itself

For the Engineers
That’s not a flocculent
You idiot that’s the soap powder

It's a long way to Mukumbura
It's a long way to jol
It's a long way from your home town
But you can have yourselves a ball
With your muckers
Goodbye Bulawayo, tot siens Cecil Square
It's a long, long way to Mukumbura
And we're going up there to stir

My favorite part about this song is how every part of lyricism and melody sounds like a squad of Rhodesian soldiers found an electric guitar on the march and made this at the side of the road

The subtlety and self depreciation of English humor coupled with the catchiness of the riff makes it better every time you hear it. I'm quite amazed.

My grandfather was in the British South Africa Police. Both sets of grandparents served as police reservists in the British South Africa Police. This country produced some of the greatest souls and heroes of our country. To this day, we have the most spectacular wildlife, stunning natural beauty and kind, generous people. Bloody proud of this, my country.

This cool song honestly seems like something from alternate history, like it shouldn't exist but does. It's so interesting on every level from cultural to linguistic and it sounds awesome too!

This actually sounds like a professionally made song about a soldier and it’s nearly a perfect parody of its a long way to Tipperary lol love it

As a white Zimbabwean of British stock, I am proud of the good Rhodesia achieved. I am proud of my countrymen and women. I have the deepest respect for Ian Smith, Abel Muzowera and the other lion-hearted Rhodesians of our country. As Anglo-Africans, I am proud of our British heritage and our British virtues, values, lion-hearted attitude and morals. Our generosity of spirit. I am proud of the many great wildlife conservationists like Rupert Fothergill, Ted Davidson, Mike Ball, Tom Orford, Frank Junor, H.G Robins, Viv Wilson, Barney O'Hara, Kevin Thomas, Allan Savory, Mike Bromwich, Tom Braybrooke, Clem Coetzee, Willem De Beer and my grandfather and father, David and Mark Brightman who inspired the love of wildlife in me as a wildlife conservationist myself. I thank the Angels that I was born in this beautiful country to serve, protect and care for Zimbabwe's amazing wildlife and stunning natural heritage.

As a white Zimbabwean, I can say Rhodesia had its brilliant points as well as its flaws. We had a good, prosperous, well-run, well-lead, successful nation. A good, noble and kind people with a good, courageous leader. To this day, I am proud of my nation and countrymen. However the way we treated the blacks was deeply unfair and wrong. Rhodesia is gone now. We should have integrated the Africans into our government along with us whites. Creating an equal country for all. Blacks and Whites United. However, I have a dream that Zimbabwe will rise again. It will, mark my words. A Wildlife Capital and Breadbasket of Africa once again. Successful, prosperous and free. A land Built on Loving Kindness, Compassion, Unity, Tolerance and Friendship for all living Beings and people. A land where our wildlife and national parks continue to thrive, the people are happy and the country one of the richest in Africa again. Zanu PF will fall. We the people will rise. All of Zimbabwe, both human and animal will be happy, healthy, loved and protected. It is coming. It will be done. Amen. 💚💚🇿🇼🇿🇼🐾🐾
