Great review, I have a 2016 X35d, it is one of best vehicle we owned. In comparison to
European models, it has 255 HP with 413 torque at only 1500 rpm(the US spec) the vehicle is a pleasure to drive. You can't go wrong with BMW 6 inline Diesel; it's powerful, economic, the power delivery is seamless and smooth.

I used to own an E92 335D(which btw has been stolen in NL) and my impression was quite the same - when in "D" mode the car delivered a satisfying amount of torque, letting move in really fast without exposing that it's a diesel. Then while in "S" mode it tended to overrev and the impression was more likely like killing the engine. Nice vid guys, looking forward to watching your next videos!

I just bought 3 years old bmw x5 f15 40d. As managed to get one with 18k miles on the clock. Changing from e70 30sd. Wanted m50d. Next time. F15 is beautiful, especially with M pack. As usual amazing review.

From what I understand you have maximum torque from 1.5k RPM to 4 or 4.5k RPM, you can absolutely drive this engine like a sports car since that's why they used a ZF sports transmission. You don't benefit from the super quick gear changes and immense torque coming out of slow speed corners unless you push the car. If you drive it at 75-80% in comfort mode, this engine is far too powerful, get the 30D, that would be more than plenty.

What is the deal with the road markings from 10:26 to 13:02? It looks like you are supposed to track the dashed white line down your car's centre line. But before that, they look like regular lines you are supposed to stay between.

I have watched this video several times, not just because I still want an M50d but also because it's a great review.

Having never owned an SUV before I am not sure between the 40d and M50d. Any feedback on which is the better balanced in terms of sheer enjoyment and comfort? I have a young family and while I am a capable driver, I tend to be a relaxed drive on public roads

Nice review. I am a diesel owner.

I watched a video regarding the gasoline powered BMW X5M (less than $100k US) and the reviewer stated the SUV weighed north of 5600 lbs (assuming accuracy). You stated this M50d weighed 2200 Kg or 4850 lbs. That appears to be somewhat light. Is this a correct weight of the M50d?

I was taken back by some noticeable diesel engine clatter at idle, something extraordinarily powerful American V8 diesels have managed to corral using current modern engineering that renders diesels almost silent. Might you comment on that anomaly?

Was the acceleration of this M50d initiated without the typical diesel hesitation often found waiting for the spooling up of turbos?

I observed some differences in the gasoline derived X5M. On that vehicle, you receive Recaro-type front seats and wide 21" wheels, a leather dash, etc., among other visual appointments. The gas M leather is top grade. Overall the buyer of an X5M knows he is getting BMW's most exclusive "X" model. However at a USD $142k Euros, the M50d diesel leaves me wondering if this vehicle offers less opulence when both models are compared.

I'd prefer the X40d and I'd add a performance tune. Power to weight is important to me and ultimately I can't bring myself to drive a 5400 lb SUV that weighs as much as a full size 2WD American pickup.
