How to STOP Itchy Ear Canals | Ear Itch Relief. Doctor Cliff Olson, Audiologist and founder of Applied Hearing Solutions, discusses 3 reasons why your ear canals itch and a few things that you can do to get relief.

Three reasons why your ear canals itch:

1. Fungal infection - If you have a fungus growing inside of your ear canals, there is a good chance you will have itchy ear canals. Before your itching will go away, you will likely need to be diagnosed by a medical professional and receive either prescription strength eardrops, over the counter eardrops, or a natural at-home remedy to relieve the itch.

2. Earwax - If you have earwax inside of your ears, it can cause itching. Having this earwax removed professionally is your best bet to eliminate the itching, but you can also attempt to remove the wax yourself by using a product like EarWaxMD from Eosera.

3. Dry Ear Canals - Dry skin causes itching. The surface of your ear canals is skin. If you ears are dry, you have to avoid itching your ears with objects like keys, bobby pins, and heaven forbid Cotton Swabs. Not only can these make the itching worse, they can actual lead to ear infections. Instead, you should use products like Miracell ProEar or Eargene to sooth the itch in your ear canals. They work almost immediately and are safe to use with hearing aids.

Sometimes the itch goes all the way down my throat

A few drops of olive oil every evening has fixed the issue for me. That was after an office visit to a ENT specialist to have excess wax removed and an infection treated. He advised me to press a cotton ball lined with Vaseline against my ear when showering to keep water out of my ear canals. It’s been 2 months and I haven’t had any issues since. I should have made an appointment with the ENT specialist sooner!
Good advice as usual.

I don't wear hearing aids and I have this problem. I think that it's dry skin.

I believe my issue is dry skin and I don't have hearing aids...yet. Its been happening for years. I was told by my health care provider to stop using cotton swabs and to use vasoline to help w/the dryness. I never got the vasoline. Last year, I did finally get an ear wax removal tool kit from Amazon. They sure have prevented me from using Qtips and has cut down on my itchiness, not completely but much better. I guess I will consider these products next.

Bragg's apple cider vinegar is the holy grail for me, I dip a Qtip in the solution and lightly rub the inside of the ear canal with it. All the dry skin went away, it cleared up so quickly after a week of use. For maintenance if I feel the slightest bit of an itchy ear canal, i swab my canal once and it's gone. I maybe have to do this once a month.

Suffered from dry itchy flaky ears for years. To address itchy ear canal, after showers Q-tip ears dry, apply a touch on Q-tip 1% hydro cortisol into the itch in the upper ear canal. On a daily basis, with index finger and Q-tip, moisturize entire ears and upper ear canal with a non-scented plain skin moisturizer. Just sharing my experience.

Summary: If you have a fungus you need to go to the doctor.
If you have ear wax go to the doctor. (I use peroxide, it's perfect).
If you have dry skin, use cream (or sponsored products) and, of course, go to the doctor.
That's it, that's what the doctor said.

God bless you!!! I'm wanting to get hearing aids and fear my itching burning ears will make me not want to wear them. I can't deal with ear buds or anything because they make my ears itch, which makes me scratch up the insides with my fingernails. I didn't know there are eardrops out there that can resolve this issue. I'm so glad I subscribed to you because you cover so many great topics.

I find dynamite stops ear itch instantly and removes wax build up completely. As a bonus you only need to treat one side
Pro Tip: To prevent nasty burns to your shoulder or neck, be sure to use a short fast fuse.

Excessive hair in the ear canal interacting with the domes can cause some itchiness as well. Trimming frequently has helped a lot.
