The TRUTH Behind One Of THE WORLD’S LARGEST Landfills

TPST Bantar Gebang is the largest landfill in Southeast Asia. Located in Bekasi, Indonesia, this open landfill stretches over 100 hectares and even reaches heights of up to 50 meters. It serves as the primary waste management site for Jakarta, which is one of the most populated metropolitan areas in the world, and it receives upwards of 7 to 8 thousands tons of trash each day.

Bantar Gebang gained notoriety in 2023, and was met with the attention of news media outlets from all over the world. One of the main stories to emerge was the settlement of around 5,000 Indonesians at the base of the landfill, who sort and sell trash in order to make a living. So we decided to visit Bantar Gebang, speak with the locals, and see firsthand the reality of life there.

Dulu pada saat saya masih di NYC, hampir setiap minggu saya pasti datang ke Staten Island, saya melewati tempat TPA sampah/limbah dari seluruh NYC and vicinity, termaksud Long Island, tempat yang sama seperti di Bantar Gebang ini. Semua nya sama, tingginya, aroma tidak sedap nya, yang berbeda di TPA Staten Island dengan Bantar Gebang tidak ada yang mencari sampah untuk didaur ulang.
Namun setelah 911, TPA Staten Island telah ditutup.
