Rising Appalachia - Speak Out (Live)

Показать описание
Speak Out- Born and raised as Southerners, there has been a surge within us to speak forth and name what we did not want to see our beautiful home region claim or host. An urge to stand for an empowered and diverse South with an environmental wealth to protect instead of the grey cloud of consumption and capitalism, the distortion of privilege and pride. There is so much beauty to this homeland that we love, and we wanted to call out the toxicity and make space for us to each be protectors of this piece of the world. Our all-time favorite righteous musician/activist/hero/babe Ani DiFranco textured it perfectly with her anthemic and potent voice, and brought our full vision to life here.

Musicians: Chloe Smith, David Brown, Leah Song
Video: Syd Woodward and Come to Life Productions

I've been dead inside for a while after my ex died, but somehow, her beauty and anger of dying not because of her fault came out, I found your amazing music. Thank you. You have no idea how much I play your music, especially when I prep before dinner service starts or even at home when I'm working out different recipes. I don't know if you will ever see this, but, again, thank you for the beauty you provide in a broken world.

I get that outpouring thing, it insists it's presence upon me in poetry and stories sometimes. You make this so clear, and spare, and powerful. I'm a southern old lady calling out the machine. Y'all are our future, we'll hold space for you to carry on.

Other than being and embodying the change we wish to see, how do you channel your rage and fury at the current systems/institutions and establishments? How do you pull yourself up out of apathy and hopelessness when it seems like EVERYTHING needs to change at once? I’m trying so hard but just one person. I wish we lightworkers could all come together in a massive peaceful standing of our ground.

Another inspiring song and video! I love how you spoke of your connection to the land that you are from. I feel the same way being from the upper Great Lakes Region. How could we possibly allow our water to be poisoned when about one-third of the world's freshwater emanates from Minnesota (the land of sky blue waters)? It's insane. I want us all to get back to the Earth and love the land we live on as if our lives depended on it. Because it does. You just inspired me to start writing a new song myself! 💗🕊
