I used to be a corrections officer and we got tased in order to be able to carry one. It was not required but “strongly encouraged” so we knew how we’d be able to handle it if the worst happened and our tasers were used against us. To answer Dane and Ken’s questions. The prongs do not hurt, but that’s only because the tasing hurts more and the prongs entering happens so fast you don’t get time to respond before getting tased. Regarding removing the prongs. They grab them around the base where they entered and hold the skin around the entry point secure/taut and just pull/yank them out. At least that’s how they did it when I got tased for training. To be honest, I didn’t feel them getting removed, but my prongs were in an ideal position, in my thigh and buttocks so that may be why, along with adrenaline of course.

I’ve also been pepper sprayed and personally, getting pepper sprayed is way worse than getting tased. Getting tased is short duration, and although your body can be incapacitated it’s not exceptionally painful in my opinion. Pepper spray feels like a million needles being jabbed into your eyes. And along with that can burn if inhaled, which happens often. Another thing, pepper spray will reactivate when you take a shower after being sprayed, even if it’s hours later. They told us in training that we shouldn’t let the water run down our bodies and to wash only our heads first. Then they proceeded to tell us stories about offenders who didn’t do that, and ended up with burning private bits because of it.

If that's sexual harassment, then I need to take half of America to court. Lol

I’m so glad that Ken has been one of the most consistent YouTubers I’ve watched throughout the years.

Good content always 😭

Out of curiosity, I googled taser probe injuries just to see, and I was not prepared for how many ended up in people's eyes.

Bro, the game channel is criminally underrated. You guys playing games together is hilarious. Even by yourself it's entertaining af. Lol

Hey Ken,

I was a deputy jail officer before. I have been tased and exposed to OC spray. I’m talking a solid 3 seconds of red liquid right into both eyes and across my face. It’s required for training, and you have to prove you can issue commands, subdue a threat, and handcuff a subject while under its effects, double-locked and checked for fit of course.

Just a few FYIs: The taser automatically runs for 5 seconds per cycle; you can’t stop it once it starts. Each individual cycle of 5 seconds is considered a separate use of force that requires justification. In the use of force continuum, the taser and the OC spray are at about the same level of force, just different reasons to use one or the other. It deploys two barbed probes that complete an electrical circuit through the person’s body. The wider the prongs attach, the larger the muscle mass that is neuro-incapacitated by the electricity. If the prongs attach too close together, it only affects a small area of the body.

The taser is one of the worst 5 seconds of your life, BUT after 5 seconds, it’s completely over and there really isn’t any residual pain except maybe some soreness. I actually felt like I had a decent stretch afterward from the muscle contractions. OC spray, on the other hand, is the devil’s pee straight into your eyes. It is the single most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. It makes the taser seem like a 5-second joke. OC spray kicks in in less than 30 seconds and it’s the gift that keeps on giving. Until you get decontaminated, it WILL NOT STOP, and the pain only continues to get worse. It will blind you, cause panic attacks, make breathing difficult, many people vomit, you will babble uncontrollably, and it will cause complete and total loss of orientation and situational awareness. All you know at this point is that you have transcended your body and become pain itself, and there is nothing you can do about it. BUT you can still move, think, and act, albeit with extreme difficulty.

The taser (assuming the prongs attach properly) locks you up like a piece of wood for 5 seconds and you can’t move. Ask 100 deputies/police officers/etc. which of the two is worse. 99 out of 100 of them will say, “Tase me any day and multiple times before you ever OC spray me.” Only psychos prefer the OC spray. During my training, the OC spray was so painful that half of my class took it off their belts and said they were never going to carry that crap again (depends on policy, of course).

Also, fun facts: Another officer CAN put hands on a person and restrain them while the taser is cycling. Just don’t touch the person between the probes and try not to touch the wires (they are coated in plastic and generally will not cause a shock). The number one rule of OC spray is, when you decide to use it, everybody within 20 ft is getting affected by it. We were taught that statistically, the most likely person to expose you to OC spray is a coworker (not on purpose).

Also, the “TASER” is typically loaded with two cartridges, which means you can deploy it twice. They make close quarters (CQC) cartridges with a wider prong spread for roughly 15 ft or less and long-range cartridges with a tighter prong spread that can deploy roughly 25 ft (good luck). Some officers load one of each or both the same. You can switch between the selected cartridge by flicking your wrist while holding the “TASER 7, ” pretty neat.

Final point on the taser: There is something known as a “drive-stun.” This is when you press the end of the taser to someone’s body without pulling the trigger and deploying a cartridge and prongs. There are metal contact points on the end of the taser, and when you press them into somebody and push the drive-stun button (NOT the trigger), it will “tase” them as long as you hold down the drive-stun button. This is used mainly for pain compliance and is generally NOT very effective as it does not incapacitate the person’s muscles; it just hurts. A deployment or a drive-stun are all individual uses of force that must be documented. You cannot simply keep tasing somebody with additional 5-second cycles just for fun (it’s physically possible, the taser won’t prevent you), but you must justify each activation based on the circumstances.

Almost forgot, one last thing about the TASER. It is "intelligent", as in powered by a computer chip. As soon as the safety is disabled, it "wakes up" and immediately documents what time it was armed, the serial number of the TASER used, every single cycle used, how many cycles, every button press, how long it was armed, when it was disarmed (safety on), battery life, self-check status, etc. This is all saved to memory inside the TASER and CANNOT be modified by ANYBODY, it is all uploaded through a special dock that the batteries are placed on while charging. This also applies to body worn cameras (BWCs). Also, at least with AXON TASERS, depending on if you have the right equipment, as soon as you "turn on" (safety off, not just drawing it) the TASER, it will automatically trigger any AXON body cams within about a 15-20 ft radius to start recording. This also applies to officers' duty pistols having an AXON sensor in their holster. If they draw their service pistol, it will also trigger all AXON body cams within that same radius. This can sometimes lead to funny stories.

I'm nowhere close to an expert but feel free to ask me any questions.

12:36 not to say that the hooks DONT get into your skin, but the primary purpose of the barb is to keep it in your CLOTHES. As long as the metal of the hook is in contact with the skin (touching), the taser will work. The barb just makes it harder to pull away. Like.. when wearing a thick jacket like this guy.

When they tased him it looks like the prongs were mostly lodged in his thick jacket. If they didn’t pierce the skin(as designed) he didn’t receive the maximum effect from the taser and that’s probably why he was able to withstand it for so long. Or he’s on some type of drugs which can lessen the effects.

When i worked in the ER, one time the cops had to bring a person in for us to remove the prong/ barb due to where it was on the person. So it depends on the departments policy, but yes sometimes they do require medical intervention for removal. It's very similar to removing fish hooks, which we did quite frequently during summer months.

Code Blue Cam is the best body cam channel. Their editing, commentary, subtitles, sound effects - chef's kiss. Love seeing Ken and Dane react to their vids.
