Torture Testing The Anvil Foundry with a Barleywine Brew Day

All in one brew systems like the Anvil Foundry are popping up everywhere! Since we've already used the Robobrew (Brewzilla) and the Mash N Boil we were excited to Give the Anvil Foundry a Try - We reached out to Anvil/Blichmann, and they made it happen! We didn't want this to be just another easy brew day, though, so we ran the Foundry through the Ringer with a barleywine that took 4# more grain than the system's recommended capacity! Combine that with a 5 hour boil and we were in for an adventurous brew to say the least. Check out out brew day and let us know what you think!

This was a nice review. I seem to learn things from others when I watch them. One thing I noticed is that the unit I just recently bought is incrementally (for the better) different from the one reviewed. For instance, the control panel is at the top of the system as opposed to the bottom. Easier to manage the temperatures when you aren't bending down. I agree with the reviewers, there are a lot of thoughtful things that are incorporated into the Anvil Foundry 10.5. That being said, it's off to brew another batch with it!

Hey, I have heterochromia too! Just bought the Foundry 10.5, as well. Can't wait to use it.

Good vid, guys.

Looking good back there! I just got the 6.5 gallon version a couple weeks ago and the controller is up top on the kettle. Pretty convenient - I wonder if they've updated the 10.5 yet?

Ah yes... the Ridiculously long brew day, and the adverse effects of drinking while doing so. We’ve been there, but on the upside you always end up with more beer! Nice review. Keep brewing my friends! 🍻

Although you kind of stepped out of the recommended specs do you know about what your mash efficiency was?

I’m on batch 5 with the Foundry. Love the system! I built a cord that lets me brew on 240v when needed and 120v when needed without having to cut the cord.

Thanks for the review! I just bought one of these a few weeks ago, it hasn't shown up yet though. Wanted to watch a video about it and your 28 minute old video popped up. Lucky

Good lord... why is there a 3:25 long advertisement about freezer vac bags in the midst of this?

So if you had to pick between the robobrew and the anvil, which would you pick?

Lean your kettle over, you hardly need to have a dip tube 😆

I'm torn between this system and the much more expensive Clawhammer. In your opinion which one would be the better buy?

How'd the grain basket work for hop trub? Brewed on the system a couple times and just used a separate straining bag, never thought to try the grain basket. Great video, quickly subscribed!

i've had so many stuck sparges even staying within 16 pounds. tons of grain end up getting into the wort and i end up just draining it through a hop basket into a kettle, then back into the anvil through the hop basket a second time. i mean my hop basket caught quite a bit of grains. and that's not including what i rinsed out the anvil once i drained the wort. kind of wasting time. but otherwise it's great overall.

What do you guys think of the bling systems like solo and unibrau?

I have he 6 5 version and brewed twice on it. Compacted grain bed each time on regular strength beers. How do you prevent this?
