Day Trip to Ushguli Georgia

Ushguli is the highest settlement in Europe, located 2200 metres above sea level in the Caucusus Mountains of Georgia.

Recognised by UNESCO, the 5 settlements of Ushguli are generally cut off from the world for 6 months of the year due to snow.

I was lucky enough to visit Ushguli on a good weather day in February and to see its unique landscape covered in snow.

The highlights of my visit were seeing Lamaria Church and having a fantastic meal at Laerti.

Ushguli can be visited as a day trip from Mestia in the Svaneti region. Don't try to drive these difficult roads yourself no matter what the time of year - take an organised trip or find an experienced local driver
