Simple guide on how to recruit faction troops in Mount and Blade With Fire and Sword game. You need to be in faction you recruit troops from, and the town/castle needs to have commander (some are lacking commander, and commander is killed when the castle is invaded)
The mercenary troops can be recruited from taverns, and faction mercenary groups can be recruited from mercenary camps in each faction.

@BladeStrikes It takes time for trainers to train troops.
about 50% of the time the troops go missing (corrupt commanders take the money and no troops).
Average train time is 1 week.
You can make many cities build troops simultaneously btw.

@sacalu14 1. To become lord you need renown, honor and good rep with the king (which serves also as faction reputation). If you conquer town etc he might give that to you and promote you to lord.
2: Mainly king quests, then lord quests. Avoid "start war" quests, they decrease your honor, and "frame a spy" quests since they decrease your honor AND you lose good soldier.

Is it possible to recruit Winged Hussars and Lifeguards or do you have to own a town and build barracks to train them yourself? Also this was very helpful, didn't know you could do this =)

@ProteanTech 1) glitch that was supposedly patched
2) wait time (week) that you must wait before troops are ready to be picked up.

In villages you can only recruit schyte wielders until you have a party of 12-15,
for the town recruitments you need to be a vassal of that faction and have commander in that town.

@BloodyDevil98 Talk to the Mayor of any towns or fortresses that you own. Ask him about Developing the City, then Appointing someone, then scroll down the list untill you see commander. You should first just recruit ''Commander'', instead of infantry or cavalry commander etc. because the normal Commander is required to recruit troops, regardless of how many other commanders you have.

@000azza000 Towns have commanders (like in video) that train higher tier troops.
Villages only hire militia.

@tomzicare Basically if you want faction troops (like winged hussars), you need to belong to faction that has the troops you want.
If you join Russia (moscovite tsardom) you can't recruit hussars from towns, as they aren't Russian troops.
If you invade city and build commander there, then the commander offers you troops from the faction that had the first city you took over. So if you invaded russian city first, then all subsequent conquered cities will hire russian troops, no matter where.

@MrHenrik747 You can freely recruit troops if you are in faction, your town or no.
However the town may or may not have commander (from whom you order troops).

Apparently, you'll have to wait for around three days or something like that. I read it in a google search.

@Frizzi95 Yep.
3-4 days, sometimes more.
You see, they need to train the recruits --> higher tier troops mean more training time.

@vladislavovich1 yes they get exp. when they got enough xp the (recruit) is replaced with (veteran) or something associated. Unlike normal units in Warband, WFaS units lvl thru ranks not classes (warband: recruit, footman, cavalry/infantry, that upgrade tree, WFaS: Recruit, veteran, commander, warlord, the unit stays the same but it gets stronger. Minus side is that the exp gain is very small, i just got my first hussar into commander (lvl 20))

@kasperkj123 Hire them like this.
The castle must have cavalry commander so that you can hire cavalry, and infantry commander to hire dragoons. Remember that you can't hire cross faction faction troops, so you get either but not both.

@5alpa5 You can, but you must first swear loyalty to one faction.
Even then you can only recruit militia.

@sacalu14
You need to increase Renown.
Increase it by:
-Doing quests for lords/villages
-Fight battles vs overwhelming odds (best way to farm it is by killing low level enemies (looters) when you don't have army) and win
-participating in tournaments/winning them.
you need ~50 renown to join faction.

In Fire and Sword it is tremendously difficult and near impossible, one can simply become a vassal, take a castle, when the king refuses it to you, revolt and become a rebel king, but then everyone will declare war on you plus it won't be your own faction, you'll just be rebels. To become King of Poland, you can follow their deluge quest line, which is very long and hard, check the M&B wiki and type in deluge to learn about it (spoilers). Do you know how to become king in warband?

@TufffCooki2 Ye, but you can't get most sophisticated troops (like winged hussars) that way.

@sacalu14 talk to the king first, after you get renown. Ask to become his vassal.
Then, after you get rep and honor, and you conquer cities/etc, the king MIGHT give it to you. This chance is fairly random but if you conquered the city, there's higher chance that he gives it to you.
Basically, keep trying.

I see a lot of questions about troops not upgrading well the only solution if you have mount and blade wfs 1.338 is to patch it to 1.339 because the patch has a fix for that bug. So guys it's a bug you don't have to be in a town or have a lot of food or something just patch the game :) hope it helps

You have to wait for him to one day decide to train some, then you can buy a few from him. Go from town to town in your faction that has all the commanders. You do know that Elite Polish Mercenaries with all the best armour, horses, and sabres not lances put hussars to shame right?
