Liz Truss fired her chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng on Friday and scrapped parts of their economic package in a desperate bid to stay in power and survive the market and political turmoil gripping the country.

Kwarteng said he had resigned at Truss's request after being forced to rush back to London overnight from IMF meetings in Washington. Kwarteng is the country's shortest serving chancellor since 1970, and his successor will be the fourth finance minister in as many months in Britain, where millions are facing a cost of living crisis. The chancellor with the shortest tenure died.

Here is a look back at Kwarteng's last 24 hours as chancellor.

Shameful - he did what she told him to do and when the markets didn't like her plans she asked him to leave. Well done Liz NOT a very honourable thing to do.

Wasn’t it her fault? And then she shifted the blame onto him and then he got the sack instead of her…

Stabbing your friend in the back won't save you Liz.

2:20 "Do you think Liz Truss has any credibility left, sir?"

That would imply that she had any to begin with.

Liz if you are in need of a chancellor next week I have a few days to spare.

I feel sorry for him to be honest. He never had the full backing of Truss and got thrown under the bus for her own incompetence. She should be going down with the ship not shooting her first mate then heading for the safety boats.

As soon you heard him say "I'm not going anywhere" you knew he was for the chop.

Woman who has no idea what she's doing sacks someone for following orders about doing something he's not prepared to do.

12 years of austerity & cutting services
Yet incresing the national debt by £1, 400 billion & were now paying £100 billion a year to service that debt in interest alone.
The saddest part is how the British public do nothing about the greatest wealth transfer in history.

"Throw to the wolves" is an English metaphorical idiom, meaning to sacrifice someone to save or benefit oneself or one's group.

The economy was on its knees already before Kwasi Kwarteng came in. He had nowhere to turn and of course the PM have to clear it. Well, if I was Mr Kwarteng, I would've refused the Chancellor post and keep my dignity.

To sack a chancellor after 6 months can look like the chancellor’s mistake, to sack a chancellor after 6 weeks looks like the PM mistake
