How Does Off Grid Solar Work - Explained with Diagrams

This video is your guide to understanding how off-grid solar works.

From the simplicity of a single solar panel system to the robustness of a hybrid inverter setup, I cover it all:

- Discover the basics with an off-grid solar diagram that starts with just one panel and a small inverter, perfect for camping trips where you need a few lights or perhaps a TV.

- Learn how an off-grid solar system works when it’s paired with an inverter charger and a backup generator – ideal for a cabin in the woods.

- Explore a comprehensive, large-scale system featuring a hybrid inverter that powers a home entirely off-grid.

Curious about how I calculate these systems off grid solar systems? Leave a comment and let me know which setup you’d like a deep dive into. I'll break down the nuts and bolts of off-grid living, including the wire and fuse sizes and the thought process behind each component selection.

Perfect video! Simple, to the point and clear enough for anyone wanting to build their own home or RV solar power system, but didn't know where to start.

I do enjoy your work. I'm currently working on a system consisting of NiMH batteries from a Toyota hybrid, configured for 12v, PWM change controler, 400w of solar panels (one 100w & two 150w) and a 1500w inverter. This is for off grid use, for a refrigerator, lights, TV and a water pump. I get about 12 hours of sun where I live.

My interest is section 3 as I’m planning a whole house power system. Your descriptive videos are the best, thank you for that.

For starters I absolutely love your videos helps me understand all of this. We actually have an off grid system that after learning as much as I can about it I believe it was way under powered and is not keeping up with our consumption. And I also have an RV that I’m planning on putting solar on for Boondock camping. So again thank you very much and I look forward to watching everything else you can teach me.

Thanks. Your posts are just sweet to watch. I'd be interested in the 20kwh system as I've been envisioning such for my solar project

I like option 2. Perhaps more of a backup for essential appliances when the grid falls over (again) 😂

@Cleversolarpower, i'm more interested with Off-grid solar system(3rd option based on your explanations) especially 5kW, 10kW, 15kW, 20kW, 50kW and 100kW.
I think i need more understanding on these Bigger capacities solar systems.

Thanks for your clear explanations: unfortunately, I have realized my backup system is probably not balanced for optimal performance. When you can, please review this setup:
2x325W Solar Panels, 1X2.1KW 24Volts Hybrid Inverter and 4 x 110AH Gel Batteries (2X2).

Thank you for your good explenations. I would like to see a good explenation of the electric in a RV (Motorhome, campingcar). There are powersources from the Car-engine, from solar, from batteries and from the powergrid. sometimes all togesther sometimes only some or one of the powersources.

Hybrid systems are the most useful and more likely needed for power a house! 🤙
