Build a Custom Table Desk from Simple Lumber - Shou Sugi Ban

A friend of ours asked if we could make him a simple desk for his office. He wanted simple but custom, so we settled on basic 2x lumber but with a twist. And after it was treated to a burning, it looked like an expensive piece of art.
I show you how to build this simple table desk with a variety of tool options so the average woodworker should be able to produce a similar project.

The factory roundover is apparently also a safety feature. Sharper points on corners catch fire easier because there's more surface to area vs a rounded edge.

I really like that, I recently built my missus a desk using MDF and some left over laminate flooring my son gave me to give it a nice top, I think I need to persuade her she needs another new desk so I can try building something like this.... lol

An FYI SL, biscuits have been found to not help out at all. Pocket holes or dowels are much better. Like your endcut, didn t know that. Nice build! Thought/question, have you thought or done a sitting/standing computer desk? I'd you do, spice it up a bit by adding self-lift
