She’s giving the average household salary, not the average personal salary which is something like $35-$40k (depending on year & mean v median)

$53k is like $27 per hour. Seems high to me

But the median national salary is even less. 41, 535. Averages are notoriously inaccurate and inflated by outliers. Median is better.

Federal minimum means the government has choose 7.25 to be the bare minimum of wage given an hour to an employee. However states still regulate their own hourly wage. For example, as of this year, WA minimum wage is 14.49. That’s the bare minimum you will make working. Although just across the state line, they are making 7.25 as hourly wage

15$ here in Ontario but your looking at a room rental (800-900 a month) and public transportation still.

£10.42 in the UK. They are upping it to £11 next April.

People earned more in the 90s than we do now. So messed up.

I know no one asked, but out of curiosity, here in Brazil, the minimum wage is R$1212, or 230, 76 dollars, for month is something very precarious with the current purchasing power, taking that a PS5, for example, is R$5k, but there are much worse countries, on the African continent, or here in America itself, like Venezuela (which use banknotes like toilet paper)

Most trades jobs START at 50K and end up making close to 100k within 5 years. If youre not lazy then trades are a really good option

$53k annual is average and $7.25 is minimum wage. That’s terrible 😞

Thing is I make 70, 000 a year before overtime. I live in probably the cheapest city to live in and have no state income tax. That money goes a way and is considered very good. Take that 70, 000 in San Francisco or New York and your in poverty. So it’s definitely not equal.

The average is an interesting stat for sure, but the more useful one to go off of is median. Using median household income is a more accurate representation because it cancels out the outliers on the upper end (and unfortunately the lower end as well).

I was going to guess 50k. I'm glad that these answers because you asked most people in Manhattan and they're like totally unaware until you something like 100, 000 starting which yes New York is expensive but that's not even the average salary in nyc
