The Battle of Puebla benefited America since the reason Napoleon III (or rather his army) was in Mexico in the first place was to install a monarchy to check the growing power of the USA. It makes sense that Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in the USA.

Americans should think of this holiday as a way for us to say thank you to Mexico and the Mexican army.

I made myself that drink. I can already feel the battle going on inside my stomach.

In the Netherlands we celebrate our freedom from German occupation during World War 2, so this recipe will get along nicely with that!

we were rooting for the french in that occasion tho, they had the usa super mad for not letting them claim mexico as their own

for anyone that wants some history into this:

basically Mexicans were fighting between conservatives and liberals, benito juarez being part of the liberal party, the conservatives wanted a mexican monarchy so they went to europe and got maximiliano of hapsburg, from austria, napoleon iii wanted to install maximiliano as an emperor but maximiliano said he'd only do it if mexicans wanted him so the french actually faked some signatures they collected saying that mexico wanted an emperor and so the war started and mexico lost the war and maximiliano was emperor and they basically had him there so that europe could do whatever they wanted with mexico but maximiliano wasnt having it, he defended mexico against the church and the pope, against france and against the United states (they were at war at the moment, europe expected the south of the United states to win over the north but that didnt happen) but when the United states finished their war and saw that the French had installed an emperor in Mexico they didnt like it because it was a threat (they wouldn'be able to control mexico if maximiliano was there) so they funded benito juarez giving him armies and he won, maximiliano was executed even though even victor hugo asked juarez not to execute him, in the end maximiliano wasa much more liberal than juarez, Juarez being a puppet for the United states

I didn't knew that all of México was a desert😂😂😂. And maybe it's Because is NOT. Jesus why all americans think that? México has more variety of biomes than USA, and it's a smaller country.
(I'm from Argentina btw🇦🇷)
