Mercury Outboard Rough Idle: Causes and Cure

Could not get idle below 6 BTDC. Sounded Very bad on the Throttle and Idle.... Ran a whole can of Merc Engine Tuner through the carbs. Rebuilt the carbs with new gaskets, needles, and floats. Every tang was improperly set causing a shortage of fuel/oil to the cylinders. Replaced all the fuel lines, rebuilt the fuel pump, and changed all the plugs to fresh L76V Champions. Enjoy.

Great video following your videos I finally got my motor singing I'm having a small problem he fires right up idles for 4 or 5 seconds then dies but if I push the choke when is about to die it stays running please help me

Hello Son, i have 1978 Black Max 1750 that I'm have some trouble with if you can help I'd appreciate it... i bought this boat and had to replace the cables to throtle and shifter and it starts up and idles fine, i put it in gear to go and it starts going at slow speed for about 1 minute and then it stalls out... I'm learning twords not having the 2 cables in correct timing but i cant seem to find anything on how to do it so any help would be appreciated... thanks much for any and all help you can give..

Have a 1982 115 Tower of Power on pontoon. Top 4 cylinders at 140 psi each. 5th cylinder 130 and 6th cylinder 125. is this a sign she will expire during the coming Summer season? Recently she runs not quite as well as she has been. Plan run sea foam through her near future. Suggestion(s)

I have an 85 model 90 hp that will run smooth but the carbs are leaking fuel like there getting too much fuel and it chokes the motor out any suggestions?

I just bought an Arima 17 Sea ranger with 1984 L6 90HP.. having hard time to start.. I am going to start with the new plug and fuel filter and fresh gas. DO you recommend using NGK BUHW instead of the champion plug? Thank you for your help and video. I learned a lot about the tower.

How you get a carb kit with new flanges? I got kits but had to use the old flanges so I don’t know if there correct or not.

I am not sure what MERC engine Tuner is? Can I just use a Can of Sea-Foam instead? Is this basically the same thing? Thanks! MikeK

Why should I look before buying a mercury brother, guy is selling a 88 175 hp mercury for $1500 not sure if that is a fair price, can u help .
