FIXED my rough Idle + stall problem 900 -2000 RPM running hot 60HP EFI Mercury Outboard 2005 Four stroke engine! The engine starts fine and after runing for a while full speed and putting it in neutral or in gear the engine starts to choke or spitter and stalls.

Check out the video to find out how i fixed it!

Thanks so much for posting this video. My 2011 50hp 4-stroke Mercury would idle smooth, then spit and sputter and die. It would start back when I hit the starter, maybe idle smooth for one minute or maybe five mins then act like it was running out of gas and die. It ran great at any speed above a fast idle. Thanks to your video I located my “Idle Air Control Solenoid “ as you described, replaced it and it solved my problem. My local marine repair shop foreman said I needed an engine control computer for $499, plus 5 hours shop time to replace it at $110 per hour. I owe you a cold beverage of your choice.

I have had the same problem with my brand new barely 1 year old 50ELPT Mercury! I just replaced this part and am hoping for not too cold weather sometime in the next couple of days to test it. The $88 part was easy to replace and I am hopeful that it is now ok! My problem was exactly as described, and though the motor is pretty new the part does have some discoloration/possible corrosion on it on the visible side. Will get back and post after test. Knocking on wood.

Thank you. I'm really unhappy with this Mercury motor . Brand new, I haven't even had this thing for a year and already it's broken down two times.

I’ve got the same issue on a 50HP. I will try the part you suggest. Thank you for posting.

Good info; just recently purchased a new 2021 Mako Skiff 15 and the 2nd time taking it out the hose on the IAC popped off and I couldn’t figure out what happened.
Dealer had it a week to reattach the hose and then zip tied them down so it wouldn’t happen again.

Sometimes the valve part loses a little vacuum and flutters. Maybe a crack or just worn parts.

Thanks for your video. Most helpful. You mentioned testing the fuel pressure….what psi should I expect?

Hi there guys. I have another issue here, I was thinking to post just in case someone eventually faced it.
2007 Mercury 60HP EFI, i just replaced the pressure fuel pump (inside the VST), the old one was dead. Now the motor starts and runs nicely on idle. The thing is that not more than a couple of seconds in higher RPMs, it stops, like it is striving for fuel.
What i noticed as soon as I removed the engine cover and touched the VST was that this last one was hot. I almost couldn't keep my hand on it, abnormally hot.

What do you think? The pressure pump inside might overheat and eventually stop? I don't think there's any thermal protection on it, it looks very basic in my opinion. What do you think?

Thank you.

Thanks for this... I have no problems yet but was curious as to the open port. It is probably an air intake on demand. Thinking I might put a piece of coffee filter over the open end to prevent dirt entry - wondering if this is the demise design built in!

My Mercury 50HP efi four stroke has that part I believe and the hose that connects to it and the intake manifold is very loose. Is that normal? Can I put hose clamps or zip ties on it and tighten up the connections?

Thanks for the video helps lead me to my problem. Has anyone tried using a carb cleaner in the valve to see if that works to clean it out?

Will the IAC make your engine hesitate when accelerating?

Hello and thanks for the video, greetings to all. I changed the IAC valve and I still have the problem, did anyone find something else after changing the IAC?

I'm having similar issue. Rough idle most notably happens after running higher rpm then switch to low rpm. Also happens in gear at low rpm, is probably the worst for stalling. Then restart motor and idles fine again. I already switched tank, hose, fuel filters, spark plugs, thermostat, changed oil.. still having idle issue so I'm going to order a new IAC.

My motor idles good. I just can't get on plane. It stalls a 3k rpms and runs real rough. I just don't want to change a bunch of stuff.

I just ordered this part. Quick question. My current setup only has one hose connected (lower nipple). No hose on the other nipple. If that how yours is connected?
