Today, I am driving the legendary Ferrari 458 Italia. A car most seem to love - but I don't. So, now I'm revisiting to see whether I was wrong.

As someone who took delivery of a 458 less than 2 weeks ago as of typing this, of course the title of your video caught my eye. I completely agree with your comparison to the 430 Scuderia. I was originally shopping for a 430 Scuderia, but with the recent price trend of them as well as the potential cost for maintenance is why I went with the 458 and I have to say I couldn't be happier with it so far. As for whether or not the 458 itself is overrated? I have to disagree, I think it has been put on a very high pedestal and from that perspective could be considered overrated, but it has been rightfully put on that pedestal due to how great it truly is, and the 458 will only continue to age gracefully.

Weirdly enough, the lack of sidescoops is why I prefer this over 488 and F8

Strong disagree with you here....

It has everything!
- Power you can use 80% of on the road
- Sound, incredible. Especially with a novitec
- Looks! beautiful.
- RELIABILITY! Never had a single issue in 20, 000 miles and 7 years of ownership.
- Price... I mean, what else can you get this good for £130k? Very little options compare

It sounds like a bear....a burning bear

The 458 is is one of the very few modern Ferraris I'd own if I could.

I cringed when reading the title. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. So, I won't fight anyone about opinions. Love your channel and would have watched the video regardless of the title, but hopefully, it gained you some new viewers and subs. I wish you much continued success in your YouTube channel growth. For the record, the 458 currently wears the crown for me. ❤️

Sounded and looks pretty impressive to me.

Sorry to say that but you are most likely the only one in the world who complained about the sound of 458, I've had the 430/488/F8 and sold all of them but kept the 458, I respect your opinion and I'm not going to argue.

This was peak Ferrari in my honest opinion. Pinninfarina left after or shortly after this car, and Ferraris styling went into the gutter until very recently with the 296. Shame this or the speciale never came with a stick.

Very few cars are lauded over quite as much as this car was, it was incredible how generally well-received this car was

Biased obviously but I absolutely adore my 458. It’s the perfect sweet spot between analogue and modern, looks brilliant, useable in lots of different situations, faster than you’ll ever need, and pretty reliable too. As others have said, there’s nothing in the price bracket that appeals even half as much.

Personally I love the sound and put it in my top 5 engine noises of all time. Amazed that you’re not a fan TBH Jay!

I guess it’s one of those to each his own things, but my 458 is the only car I have that I can confidently say I’ll never sell (unless someone does me a deal on a Speciale that is!).

God I hate gel number plates. You would think that a ferrari owner would have more taste.

Totally disagree that 458 is overrated. I think no one is qualified to make such remarks about 458 ( or any other car for that matter) without actually owning it, living with it and driving it over a period of time. And, having the privilege/opportunity of owning multiple super cars from various manufacturers at the same time, to be able to compare them with the 458 Italia. There is no other Ferrari out there which ticks the boxes which the 458 does:
1- Last Pininfarina Designed V8 Ferrari. Regarded by most Ferraristas as one of the best looking modern Ferrari to date.
2- Last Naturally Aspirated V8 by Ferrari, revving up to 9000 rmp.
3- Cult Following globally
4- V8 Sound
5- Build quality far better than any previous Ferrari. Period.
6- More drivable than ANY previous Ferrari . Period.
7- Excellent Factory warranty and 7 year free service plan. Better than anything Ferrari had offered for previous models
8- F1 Technology etc etc etc.

If Ferrari 458 Italia is not a better car in every single aspect, than any of its predecessor than is it the 488 GTB? or F8 Tributo? I know what most of my car friends think about the turbo charged Ferraris based upon the 458 Platform...

I'd say the F40 was the most overrated Ferrari. Awful build quality and an often difficult road car. An icon? Absolutely. An investment? Certainly. An automotive Van Gogh, perhaps?

I changed my 488 to a 458 early last year & have enjoyed every minute. I’m fortunate to own a scud also which is a different ownership experience & is tricky to compare in reality. I had an early 650, never again. Awesome car but to many issues meant I sold it & bought the scud which is the best thing I ever did. The 60k you save buying a 650 keep for rainy day maintenance!

Having had a few Ferraris I have to respectfully disagree.
Some of the points you make (lack of reward for hitting 9k rpm, exhaust bark - although this is easily fixed with a £250 aftermarket controller) I agree with, but perhaps I’m a bit older and can remember how much of a spaceship this was when it landed in 2009. The same cannot be said about the 355, 360, or 430.
When the 355 was released, Porsche had the 993 Turbo, a car that would monster it in every dimension bar noise, similarly the 360 which the 996 Turbo would demolish without a second thought. 430 - 997. However with the 458 it took Porsche a full 4 years to even come close, and for sheer driving pleasure the McLaren was miles behind. The 650 again came a full 4 years later.
To criticise the 458 for those issues compared to cars that took years of development just to be comparable is a bit unfair.
Also two things make it near perfect - make it a Spider (solves the in cabin noise issue) and buy a IPE exhaust- makes even the 355 sound a bit tame!

Fight you, I will. I disagree highly, this is a legendary modern Ferrari, the only dispute for me is a manual F430 or this. How could you not be moved by the noise, and the turn of speed this has? It isn't perfect, but despite your objections, this car is still an object of desire; certainly over any 12C or 650S. If you haven't already, drive a 458 Speciale, and that will give you the fizz and the drama you're looking for.

I have a 2011 458 and absolutely love it. Around mid 2012 Ferrari adjusted the exhaust notes and for the most part got rid of the crackles. At the same time I owned a 2017 488 GTB and absolutely loved it. Did not sound as good as my 458 but was as good looking and much more smoother to drive. Oh ya and much faster but I believe the 458 is a better car for the road. 488 is just to fast for the road. I recently traded the 488 GTB for a Pista. The Pista is stupid fast but I love it. I will only sale my Italia for a Speciale...!

Couldn't disagree more about the lack of side scoops: That's what MAKES this shape...emphasising the cab forward stance that Centro Stilo's turbo-required scoops entirely disrupt. The Maserati MC20 shows how that can be done so much better.
