Oscar winner Robert Duvall on his film Angelo My Love starring an 8 year old New York gypsy boy.

Robert Duvall has created some of Hollywood’s toughest and most resolute characters in a range of films from The Godfather, A Civil Action and The Apostle to Jack Reacher, Tender Mercies and Apocalypse Now.
There have been many others, including The Judge, The Great Santini and his role in the TV series Lonesome Dove.
Bob, as he prefers to be called, has been nominated 7 times for an Academy Award, winning Best Actor in A Leading Role for his performance in Tender Mercies opposite Tess Harper.
But he has also tried his hand at directing, including a film he researched and wrote called Angelo My Love, a story inspired by, and starring, an 8 year old gypsy boy Bob spotted on a New York, street flirting with a young woman.
Set among the gypsy families of New York, he immersed himself in their lifestyle attending everything from weddings to court trials to get the right look and feel.
But, as Bob explained, he faced some unusual challenges with the cast, because many of them were unable to read his screenplay.

One scene in particular, included here, was beautifully directed and performed - as Angelo tries to fool his teacher that he can reads.
Robert Duvall is 91 now but he hasn’t stopped working.
His latest films are The Ploughmen, The Pale Blue Eye and Hustle.
He has also, along with fellow cast members and crew, recently been celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Godfather.

Thanks John for sharing your interviews. I enjoyed this very much as I find Duvall one of the most authentic actors going around. I had heard of problems on tender mercies it was good to hear his side of the story.
