The split grip swing hold is one of the best hitting drills you can do at home off of a tee. You can do if you are struggling with rolling over too early. It is designed to help cultivate the feeling of keeping the top hand palm up through impact.
It is also really helpful for promoting a good swing plane and efficient approach into the pitch on the back half of the swing. A couple of the key drivers of a good swing plane are:
1. Shoulder Tilt
2. Posture / Side Bend
3. Front Arm Path
This drill brings a heightened focus to all three of those areas.
Additionally, it can be a hugely beneficial drill for trying to stay connected on the back half of the swing.
