WEB is a very popular public domain Bible on the internet. It is based on the ASV of 1901. God bless!

I've read parts of the World English Bible on their website. While it's not the translation I read each day, I think it's important to have a modern English Bible that's in the public domain as God's word was written for everyone.

Your problem here is you are using the KJV as your standard and assuming it is always correct. To actually do a good review, you need to compare it to the Hebrew and Greek.
The vast majority of biblical scholars agree it should be Yahweh instead of Jehovah.
The WEB is now my primary Bible. I find it to be an excellent translation. It isn't perfect, as there is no perfect translation including the kjv. I find it overall more accurate than the kjv

The thy and thine does not make a translation trustworthy. In fact, it is not a translation issue, but an English language issue for not differentiating between second person singular and plural. Also, in order to truly evaluate the translation you should go to the original manuscripts and see if the selected rendering is accurate. Going to the KJV to compare the accuracy is questionable. This is not a fair review.

Below you can find few examples of the WEB translation being more accurate than the KJV:

The phrase "will be done away with" translated consistently within the following passage, helping the reader to see better the greek repetition that Paul used.

1 Corinthians 13:8-10 (WEB) 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they *will be done away with* . Where there are various languages, they will cease. Where there is knowledge, it *will be done away with* . 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part; 10 but when that which is complete has come, then that which is partial *will be done away with* .

Same greek expression translated differently in the KJV: "shall fail", "shall vanish away", "shall be done away" in the KJV:

1 Corinthians 13:8-10 (KJV) 8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they *shall fail* ; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it *shall vanish away* . 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part *shall be done away* .

The WEB rendering attempts to reproduce the original greek word selections in a better way.

The same in the following passage, with the greek word for "spiritual discernment". It is consistently translated in the WEB to help the reader see some of the greek words used intentionally to transmit a message.

1 Corinthians 2:14-15 (WEB) 14 Now the natural man doesn’t receive the things of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to him, and he can’t know them, because they are *spiritually discerned* . 15 But he who is *spiritual discerns* all things, and he himself is judged by no one.

The KJV uses different rendering for the same greek expression within the same passage:

1 Corinthians 2:14-15 (KJV) 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are *spiritually discerned* . 15 But he that is *spiritual judgeth* all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

There are lot of example like this where the WEB renders many text a little bit more faithful to the original greek, and also fixes minor translations issues in the KJV (e.g. "God forbid" in Rom 6:2 is nowhere in the greek). After all, translations are not inspired, we want to know what the original says. Having few high quality translations based on Byzantine text forms is a blessing. KJV, WEB, NKJV, and MEV, all of them are welcomed. They are all great tools to have for those that don't know koine greek.

Felt like hearing the bible and this translation is coming up. I looked here to see about accuracy. I am an NAS or ESV reader and hadn't herd of WEB.

That they translated non-scriptural apocryphal books is all I needed to hear. I'll go a different direction. Thanks!

Another good open source bible (that the only way of getting it is a pdf) is the FBV!

Thanks for the review of the World English Bible. It seems that your authority is the KJV and not some of the original texts. (Oh Well)
Do you know of any translation that:

* Is Very Literal,
* Uses any of the following where we see the tetragrammaton in the original Hebrew. Jehovah, Yahweh, YHWH, JHVH.
* Is based on the Alexandrian/Older/Critical Texts

The WEB follows the ASV1901 in capitilizations.
