Calvinist Editors are changing the ESV Study Bible to teach their John Calvin, Augustine rhetoric and people who "just use" ESV Study Bibles are bound to turn into Calvinists.

You've been warned, be a Berean.

I do like the ESV study bible. I prefer to think that God did not choose the elect, but he knew beforehand who would accept him.

I've been speaking out about the Calvinist bias to the ESV for YEARS! As an ex-Calvinist myself, I quickly noticed the slant when I first read it. Good to see someone else who agrees.

This is exactly why I avoid the esv at all costs. My 3 main translations are the CSB, NASB95 and the NKJV.

I googled what calvinism is and ut says "God selected a limited number of souls to grant salvation and there's nothing any individual person can do during their mortal life to alter their eternal fate."

But isn't that right? I read thr King James Bible by myself and it says God chose his people, that salvation us a gift and not of wirks so that man doesn't boast.

Thank you! I got the ESV Study Bible when it came out (I had the Black trutone with the orange ‘Dorito’ chip triangle on the cover). I was reading their notes about predestination when my hair started to raise. It was totally a Calvinist bias. I wrote an Amazon review warning people, and Calvinists replied that I was correct, but then so was Calvinism! To be clear, I’m *not* a Calvinist!

Serious question as a new believer, if calvinists are wrong then why does it say in scripture that Nobody can come to Christ unless God draws that person to Christ? Why does the Bible say numerous times that people are predestined? It seems pretty straightforward to me

Reading the Bible in context also creates Calvinist. Romans 8-9 Ephesians 1-2 John 6, 10. Entire Capters. Not isolated text.

For anyone wondering about the *original* text, it is written:
καὶ προσκυνήσουσιν αὐτὸν πάντες οἱ κατοικοῦντες ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, οὗ/ὧν οὐ γέγραπται τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ τῆς ζωῆς τοῦ Ἀρνίου τοῦ ἐσφαγμένου *ἀπὸ καταβολῆς κόσμου*
The phrase in question is highlighted.

The word the ESV translates as "before" is ἀπό, which means "from, after" (LSJ s.v. ἀπό A.II; Middle Liddell idem A.II; cf. Latin "ab").
It does *not* mean "before". A better word for "before" would have been πρό.

ἀπὸ καταβολῆς κόσμου ‐ from/after/since the founding of the world
πρὸ καταβολῆς κόσμου - before the founding of the world

Guys, we are not Calvin or Armenian or other etc ….we are Christian! Guys, really grow up even in our different pointless opinions…. And to continue to add a divide in Christianity is so so so so sad… we are Christians and we need to come together and have no further separation.. let’s be mature and grow up as the point is the same, make disciples for God’s glory.
Ps, I agree with your position, but also understand it’s pointless..

I just got my stepsons study Bibles, an NLT and an ESV, I grew up RSV in Church of Christ, just getting them to study and understand God’s word is first and foremost, maybe I’ll get a NKJV also, that’s what I read now, thanks for this important information about the ESV

My goodness though.. I’ve read several study bibles and the ESV notes atleast from what I’ve read in the OT so far are head and shoulders above any other — if you bought it for the purpose of the OT alone it wouldn’t be a lost cause

Be like the Bereans!

I too am nondenominational and disagree with the 5 points of TULIP. However I love the ESV, along with the KJV and 1995 NASB.

Good video! Thanks for sharing.

Here’s a quick quiz. Throughout church history, which group looked more like the early church?
A. Calvin’s Geneva
B. Luther’s German church city states
C. The Roman Catholic Church empire
D. The Anabaptists and other similar groups

What did the first three have in common? Church-state hybrids, conformed to the world, adulterated the simple teachings of Christ, used force and violence when expedient, and all three persecuted the saints among the Anabaptists. Or do you believe God made exceptions to their anti-christ behavior?

The KJV Bible was translated by Calvinists. Many Calvinists still use the KJV and make the case for those doctrines from it and other translations.

For your point to stand you would have to show from the Greek that the underlying word can’t be translated as before.

Eph. 1 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Hmmm there's no deception in what Crossway is doing. They explicitly state in their bibles that their doctrinal perspective is that of a classical evangelical orthodoxy, in the historic stream of the Reformation. Notes do their best to provide alternative views or try to represent fairly different interpretations and notes will also provide their defense as to why certain interpretations are inconsistent with classical evangelical orthodoxy. One thing I do agree with you is that there is no one perfect study bible and people should be responsible to always do their own reading and study before consulting to different viewpoints. I myself have moved away from Calvanism although some points are still valid. Thanks for your video!

NLT also uses "before". Makes sense bc Ive heard it leans Calvanist as well. Ill stick with my NKJV, BSB, and CSB.
