I honestly feel like every single driving instructor has their own way of teaching people how to parallel park, up to a point where I am convinced that eventually I'll meet one that does it by observing star constellations for reference points and compensates for the Earth's spin momentum in order to avoid climbing the curb

Just wanted to leave a comment saying your videos helped me out so much - I'm in Glasgow and sat my test today, zero minors! Couldn't believe it but your videos are an absolute godsend so thank you for helping!

Real world observation starts before you've even stopped. Then it's check what's happening around when you stop. If space is tight then position slightly wider from the car you stop beside. Then that allows you to put your angle on sooner then get the back in till you can start to turn in . I personally use the front left of the bonnet as reference of when I start to turn in. Then one you've run out of space behind but front still out you then go forward and left hand down and you may need to do a bit of crabbing with the front to go in . Not every space is possible without adjustment when theirr is only 40 cm front and back to spare. The main thing is going slow and keep observation going through the maneuvers.

This is brilliant. This is definitely recommended for beginners. As an ex-learner myself, I can safely say that this is the kind of teaching I had from my previous instructor when l was learning to park. Took me a few tries, but eventually, once l got into it, it was kind of easy to do.
Oh yeah, and just to remind anyone who is thinking about learning to drive out there, don't just
suddenly rush into it because you won't know what you're doing unless your instructor tells you.

Thank you for this lesson in parallel park. As a driver of 50 years I still suffer from anxiety when trying to do that manoeuvre. I must say that your description of how to do the parallel parking manoeuvre is the clearest one I have ever seen. ❤

This is the first driving video I've seen since passing my driving test this morning with 2 minors! Thanks for your super helpful videos, Aman!

This helpful! I was taught with a different reference points and I find them difficult when it’s not present in where I have to park! The triangle reference point made it a lot easier!!

I feel a little ashamed of myself. After 40+ years of driving and parking by myself, I have started allowing my car to automatically park for me.(both regular parking and parallel parking on the streets of New York City) At first, I was unsure and uneasy about it. However, after a year with the new car, I have started to get used to letting my BMW park itself. I guess it was inevitable. Back when I was learning to drive, there were no cell phones and navigation systems. Paper maps were necessary. Since I bought my first car with factory navigation 25 years ago, I ditched paper maps... I haven't had a paper map in any of my cars for well over 15 I'm not even sure I know how to read paper maps while driving anymore. :)

I made my license two years ago. The instructor made me park between two cars on a slope. But it was basically an early ending of the examination. He said he put me through enough stress and I passed the examination without a mistake. And added “finally someone I am confined to let through. I should only work on being less nervous”

Very good video, After I parked I usually check the right wing mirror to see If I'm levelled with the car or cars behind me, If their right side is sticking out more or levelled with mine then all good.
