So in a interview one of the former developers of frontier confirmed that unknown was a Bio weapon made from the DNA of all known flying wyverns. It was made by the ancient kingdom to fight elder dragons but they couldn't control it. It's DNA is unstable and the monster wanted evolves as you fight it

A fun fact about this monster: It is based on an ancient urban legend from MH1. A player claimed that while fighting a Rathian the game bugged in some way (the version I heard was the server unexpectedly disconnected) and the Rathian started using all the moves available to the Flying Wyvern skeleton, which in MH1 was pretty much every move.

This leads to her original moveset: she has a super roar she does like Khezu with effects similar to Gypceros flash, Gravios lava beam and gas attacks, fireball attacks similar to how Kut Ku and Gypceros attack, it can hip check like Plesioth or a Blos, and of course its ultimate combo attack being Rathalos claw dive (into the ground to get the boulder) followed by Rathians flip.

All the moves are tweaked to be suitable for Unknown and turned up to 11 of course, and later versions of Unknown would get way more intense and unique attacks as Frontier is known for.

I’d like to mention its design isn’t just meant to be a Rath Recolor. It’s based off of the “Unknown Monster” icon found in most older games, being the black Wyvern with red accents and a question mark on top of its body.

It has 8 rage modes, each one stronger than the other. It never calms down, and it enters a fire-like transformation in its final rage mode with more destructive power.

If they decide to have their side team remaster games at some point, I hope they remaster the frontier series. It looks so fun with how crazy they get, and also magnet spike is very cool

If they bring back Unknown in Wilds, I say they should reimagine Unknown as a Guardian but with the gimmick it’s a Chimera of other flying wyverns with Rathian as the base.
