You can literally tell after he thought he could defeat yoda, but after that force push and there fight further on, Palpatine was scared.

Yoda is the only person who poses a genuine threat to Palpatine at this point so being in a room with a determined nothing really left to lose Yoda is not something I’d wanna endure if I had the choice lol.

I think that fear among other negative emotions is a source of power for the sith, and palpatine, being the lord of the sith, is very prone to fear, but he hides it well most of the time.

People underestimate Palpatine. He wasn't afraid, it was a tactical movement. Why risk everything you JUST achieved, everything you worked DECADES to accomplish on a fight with the Grandmaster of the Jedi, the only person that is on par with you?
Also, it wasn't in his interest fighting in a reduced space, he knew the best move was to keep his distance and wear Yoda out, which he did tbh. The lighting made Yoda fly away and take a serious hit, while Palpatine practically got no damage. He's not only strong as fuck, he's also a master strategist.

Considering that Sidious apparently became the best Sith duelist by ROTS, and he was caught off guard by Yoda's skill, Yoda would certainly be the best duelist of all time at this point.
