NEET PG 2018 – ANSWER KEY AND MERIT LIST CONTROVERSY

The year 2018 was a turning point. Candidates raised their voices against the National Board of Examinations (NBE), claiming that the answer key for NEET PG contained errors that directly impacted their results. This led to the filing of writ petitions across different High Courts.

One notable case reached the Delhi High Court. In Writ Petition (Civil) No. 10424 of 2018, students argued that errors in the official answer key had affected the scoring and subsequent merit list. They demanded transparency through the release of the final answer key, so that they could verify their results and ensure fairness.

The courts took a balanced view. While they did not order a full re-evaluation, they asked the NBE to review the answer key’s discrepancies and address any legitimate challenges. This case set a foundation for transparency in the evaluation process of NEET PG.

NEET PG 2019 – DEMAND FOR ANSWER KEY RELEASE

The next year, in 2019, the issue of transparency was brought up again. Many candidates claimed that the NBE was not providing adequate access to the evaluation process, specifically the answer key and OMR response sheets.

This led to the filing of a Public Interest Litigation, or PIL, in the Delhi High Court, arguing that the same transparency provided in NEET UG – where answer keys and response sheets were made available – should also be extended to NEET PG candidates.

The courts took note but also acknowledged the NBE’s argument that their evaluation process is meticulous. As a result, while the demand for answer key release was raised, the court did not mandate its release but encouraged NBE to consider increased transparency.
